I am building an air compressor out of some spare parts, and I have what appears to be a good Quincy twin cylinder model #216 Compressor pump. Many of these models I see have a feature that makes for loadless starting (a valve that takes any pressure of the pump when it's being fired up).
Mine doesn't have that, and it appears it never did. I was kind of concerned that it would be difficult to get going, but I'm not really up to speed on how they work. I only have a 3 HP 220 V compressor motor.
Anybody familiar with this pump? Am I asking for trouble?

Just use an in tank check valve with a blow down port, then tube it into a blow down valve on the side of a pressure switch to relieve pressure from the discharge tube and pump. It will work fine. A 3hp 216 will be a very nice compressor.
