Quincy Air Compressor Mounting

Just got a new Quincy 60 gal compressor last week and am working on getting it installed. I was reading through the manual and they say for vertical compressors not to use any isolators under the feet. Just to bolt the compressor to the floor using lock nuts left loose. It does say that isolators should be used for horizontal tank models, but not vertical. Any idea as to why nothing for the vertical type? I'm probably over thinking this, but would sure feel better having something under the legs.

First I've heard of such a thing, others will chime in soon enough. I have a Quincy verticle too, so will keep eyeball peeled on this thread.

I'd go for it anyway. I have a new (8 months) Quincy 60 gal vertical and did the popular GJ hockey puck isolators on it. No neg issues and makes it easy to walk it in and out of the small ventilated sound deadening closet that I made for it. Quincy's techs have done a couple warranty repairs on it and have said nothing of the isolators and even walked the compressor in and out of the closet themselves each time. Without getting my manual out, maybe they're refering to isolators only without also bolting to the floor. Mine can't fall over while in the closet, so not a concern to me.

Just a follow-up. I should have been more clear on this. I bolted the pucks to the compressor only. Nothing is bolted to the floor. The pucks are extremely hard rubber and I don't foresee them ever seperating from their recessed mounting bolts or compressor over time.

That same Quincy manual also states to "run 100 hours at full discharge operating pressure to break-in piston rings". Didn't sound right to me and wasn't possible in my home environment, so I called Quincy and was told to just operate as normal, but keep an eye on the oil level. They said it needs pressure build up to seat the rings, so proves that some things in that manual aren't exactly correct. Just my take on it anyway.

I will make a cart out of steel and wood. Mount them on the steel. These will work for my lathe, drill press, bench grinder ect. so they will all be mobile when I can afford it. I think they would work for a cabinet table saw with extension that I dream for?

Ain't no way would I have a vertical compressor, be it 5, 10,20,60,80 gal on two legs, 3 legs or 4 legs, bolted to the floor, without some sort of anti vibration pad. Besides the noise, it's detrimental on the floor!

heres mine on hockey pucks bolted through 2x8 pt boards... my concrete floor is only a 1-2 inch thick top layer to cover dirt so i figured i probably shouldnt bolt it to that isolated or not. It does move around a tiny bit on this setup but its only moved about 1/2 inch in 3 months. the compressor is floating on the pucks with the bolts loose, i tightened them down when i first mounted it and it vibrated all over the place so i loosened them up and no problems since

how did you bolt the mounts to the compressor? did you notch the pucks for a bolt head or carriage bolt or something?

Did exactly that. The bolts I used were actually adjusting feet for an appliance or cabinet that I had in one of my spare bolt drawers. The very thin, but wide, head on them allowed me to easily recess them into the shallow notch that I made in the hole of the hockey puck. The hockey pucks seem really hard, but they drill out very easily. I shoved the bolt through the puck and then up through the bottom of the compressor footings and then capped off with a washer and nut and tightened down. The tightening sucked the bolt head up even more into the notch in the puck. Walking the compressor around when needed seems to be even easier with the pucks on. Seems more stable to balance for some reason.

BTW, I marked the floor with a black sharpie, noting where the compressor is supposed to sit each time I put it back after moving. It has never moved from those marks on it's own from vibration.

I have a 60 Gal IR bolted thru 4x4's into the concrete in my shop for 4 years now (sim to sparky7 just no pucks) and i have had no problems. Plus this makes it easer to acess the ball valve to drain the water out of the tank.
