i have the IR 2 stage and love it. I know quincy compressors are very good, and have a strong reputation. Its a toss up i guess. I got my IR from tsc on sale for 830 out the door. It is quiet, builds air fast, and as my opinion, will prolly last the better part of my lifetime.

TPTools is $50 more for this compressor, and $150 to $250 depending on the shipping zone.

I think shipping will be your deciding factor and consider this carefully when shopping prices.

They're close in spec, CFM-wise.

Things to consider:
- Which compressor runs at a slower RPM? IR's tend to run >1k RPM. Quincy pumps usually run <1K RPM. Slower pump means longer life and less noise.
- Pump design. Depending on the IR pump model, you could be getting one piece connecting rods and other less desirable components.

I own a Quincy 310, a 2hp industrial model for over 35 years. I never had a problem with it. Now I am running out of air as I am doing more sandblasting.

I recommend the Eaton 7.5 hp with the 10 hp compressor for $1647. It comes with over $700 in options. Worth a look see, IMO.

I have the compressor that you are looking at and it is a good compressor. I bought it 3 years ago and it will run almost everything that I want it to.

I have the Champion from TP Tools, 4 years ago when I purchased it, TP was doing a free shipping deal so that worked out for me. I spoke with them at length prior to buying it since they sell Quincy and Champion, they pushed the Champion because it ran at 545RPM and was the quietest of the 2, other than that they were equal (at least they were 4 years ago, I assume they still are).

The Champion is QUIET and has way more air than I have ever needed (note did not say will need, just needed so far).

As a satisfied Quincy owner for over 15 years, I have to admit that today, the Quincy name isn't the same as it was 15 years ago. Back then, they only built commercial grade compressors. Today, they have sold out their good name and are producing home owner grade compressors that in my opinion, just don't hold a candles light to what made them famous for quality. Before you plunk down your hard earned money, look over carefully any compressor that you intend to purchase. Today, a 5 HP motor isn't the same as a 5 HP motor of 15 years ago. Seems that they have figured a way to over rate a smaller motor to being something that it really isn't. As for the "Made in China", there are some quality products coming from China, and there is a lot of ****. Keep that in mind and don't just assume that everything is bad from China. For the most part, the stuff that is **** is the stuff that was once expensive, and now they can produce it cheaply. The quality merchandise still has a higher price tag to go along with the quality.
PS..... if you want a quality Quincy, look for an older unit that has the pressure oil feed for the piston and bearings, and an oil filter on the side. Junk....
