Is it worth it to pay for the extended warranty kit for a QT-5?

They run about $200 for the kit.

I am looking at if i am better off putting the $200 toward an upgraded model and not get the warranty.

Local store had the QT-5 251cp80vcb for $1,795.

They also have the QT-5 BMQT5VT for $1,950. This one includes a Mag Starter and an air/air cooler.

They told me that the electric motor is not included in the warranty.

This also isn't something that is going to see everyday use.

It's cheap insurance since you need the oil and filter anyway. Just buy it and use oil and filter as needed, then you will be covered. The other unit costs more but does not mean that you can have the same issue that you would with the cheaper unit.

My theory is if you get it, you'll never need it. But if you don't get it, you'll definitely need it! Always the case with me anyway!

I bought the kit with my Quincy and never had a problem after the initial warranty period ran out. I've used half the kit so far, with half of it left for another oil change, so at least I still have something to show for my money! Seem's like my kit was only something like $80 or so?

Edit: Dang! I just Googled the kit for my model Quincy, and it now consists of 8 quarts of oil and 3 paper filter elements! When I bought my kit it only contained 3 quarts of oil and two filter elements. No wonder mine was so much cheaper! Quincy seems to now want their customers to invest in a multi year maintenance kit for the extended warranty!

Does your credit card have an "Extended Warranty" coverage?

This summer, Costco switched from AmEx to Visa so I don't have any experience with the Visa coverage yet, but the Amex coverage was great. It usually extended the warranty for an additional years, and if something did happen to the item - I was refunded the purchase price in full. (keep in mind the most expensive item was in the $300-$400 range)

Also this Visa Card has 'price protection' - they just refunded me $300 for a TV that I bought and it later went on sale

I just looked at the new Visa coverage, and it looks like they would cover the compressor for 2 additional years for a total of 3 years - refer to attached.

Also - saw this review on Amazon:

Got the no bull warranty. but a little over a year now and there saying I need a new safety plate that's not covered under the warranty. No bull warranty is total bull. Beware. Cost $850 for the repairs. Next time it's going to the scrap yard.

The company sales people should convey more confidence in what they make the way I see it. Not offer backup protection because the piece of equipment is possibly marginal in quality and longevity.
Sometimes when I buy equipment/tools the sales people ask me if I'd like to buy the extended warranty.
I then ask them if the quality of the item maybe is not that good anymore like it used to be or are they trying to bump up monthly revenue.
Years ago the big good brand name company's didn't need to offer extended warranty on top of the line equipment because it was built so good and was long lasting.
Today.... a whole different ball game.

I purchased it for mine. I'm with 71goldss. If you don't get it you will need it! Why kick yourself 2 years from now for $200. I've only had mine for 4 months now. The ****** for the pressure gauge was cracked. Could have fixed it myself, but since it was under warranty and wasn't sure if I messed with it if it would void the factory warranty. 1 call to Quincy and done. Closest service guy was an hour and a half away. Wouldn't want to pay for that myself!
