Quincy flywheel reinstall help

I've got a nice Quincy QR-25 compressor that needed pretty much everything around it (receiver, motor, belt, switches, etc.). In the process of working on all of this, I used a gear puller to remove the 14" flywheel from the compressor. Well, now that I have the new bits and am putting it all back together, it's time to reinstall that 35 lb flywheel. Sorry to say, it's not all that excited about getting back to work. I'm new to this and am hesitant to take a BFH to it for fear of damaging bearings and such. What's the standard procedure for this? Using wedges in the slots next to the hub to expand the opening? Heating it? Or is banging on it acceptable? Thanks for the advice!

Can you show a picture of what you are working with? Split hubs could have a threaded hole that is used to separate the halves. If the bolt that tightens the split is threaded into the other half of the split then it is possible to put the bolt in backwards and a plate in the split and use the bolt to open the split. Wedges can also be used if the above does not work. Whatever you do go gently as not to break the hub if it is cast.

I tap a wedge between the pinch bolt area. Then it will slide right on.

Is the flywheel keyed on to the shaft? If not I'd look for evidence marks that show the exact position the flywheel was mated to the shaft before. The flywheel, crank and reciprocating mass should have been balanced as one unit so you want to maintain this balance.

the quincys i have played with, 25 hp, have a split in the fly wheel casting, where wedges can be beaten in. this does not work.
in multiple conversations with my supplier, you are supposed to use a bfh and beat it on.
i bought a 10# dead blow sledge, and go to town. i dont agree with the procedure, but the ones that were beaten on (4 of them) are still on line, and they're run hard
