Quincy model 244

My old "5hp" 60 gallon compressor went kaput so I have been putting together a nicer unit. Just last week I picked up a quincy 244-33, a very old 2hp repulsion induction motor, and an ancient 100 gallon tank for $50. The tank has dents and previous weld repairs from what looks like leaking areas, so that won't be used(I have a nice 120 gallon tank already)

As far as the pump, I can't seem to find much info out there on a model 244, just a 240. A 240 is listed at 3-7.5hp, 4" bore/ 3" stroke, 400 min. RPM (10.4cfm), 900 max RPM(23.56cfm), 100 psi max (single stage pump), 275lbs. so judging by this info, the 2hp motor I have isn't enough.

I also had a question about the tank check valve. The one I have has a fitting installed into the side of it, that was connected to a small solenoid. I have a second one also, that one has a plug instead. what does this solenoid do?

I'm thinking that the solenoid actuates the unloader. Is it NO and closes under power?

It is for the unloader, bleeds off air pressure above the check valve to make it easier to start the pump going. That quincy has its own oil pressure activated unloader setup for starting as well. You should use the large check valve and plug the port for the unloader, assuming of course that bad@ss Quincy is working right. That thing is cool! Really like the Westinghouse R.I. Motor too. Have you been through it?

DO NOT LOOSE that airfilter! Its worth $$$$$$ in the small aircooled engine collector world. If its the right diameter its original equipment for a 1931 harley davidson stationary engine. u will find 1 engine on google images, without the filter. i always thought those size protecto seal cleaners would been used on something else. i have a guy desperately needing 1 4 his engine. please pm me if u want to let it go. it does say protecto seal on the top? DAMN!

Well I did get the compressor from a couple that bought a house that an old machinist owned and had his machine shop there. The compressor was the last item left and they just wanted it gone. That would be pretty funny if it was a harley air filter, considering the circumstances.

When I strapped down the compressor to my truck, and went over it it for loose stuff, I somehow forgot to check the air filter. When I got home it was still there and when I was unloading the unit, I grabbed the filter. It was barely held on, and I have no clue how it survived the 70 mile trip. But it did.

That pump looks like it was setup to run continuously. I say that because of the type of unloader that is mounted to the left of the oil pressure gauge. We had a smaller quincy single stage pump mounted on a tractor on our farm to prune trees and it looks the same as yours. Once it reaches the set pressure it pressurizes the plungers up to (small lines) so the pump stops building pressure.
