Sorry for another compressor thread.

I was going to get a new compressor a few years ago -- figured I would get a 5hp 60 gallon IR ... But I heard one running and I was concerned about the noise .. when i looked again ... I noticed they were mostly made in China.

So -- I was looking at the Quincy compressors and I would love to get one of the slower units -- but it looks like they are all over 2k .. way over.

So for those with newer Quincy compressors what model did you get ... They say they are made in the USA ... but I have not actually seen one.

I have a Quincy its a 60gal 7.5 hp (if I remember correctly I'll verify when I get home) it is a little noisey but not unbearable we paid $1300.00 for it new. It is going to the new shop and will be in its own little outside building

Don't get hung-up on the USA/China thing. Quincy has manufacturing in China, so I wouldn't count on the compressor being solely made in the USA.

Part of the problem I had: when you try to cross reference the model numbers with the Quincy catalog - they don't show up. I did not have to time to check the northern tool numbers above .. but they did not match up before. I think Quincy must make special units for particular outlets.

I know the unit for $1400.00 is only 60-gal -- and I'm sure that is enough - but I know it is not the low speed motor and I don't think the 2k units are.

So I'm wondering -- what is the big difference between the $1400 and the $2K units other then the tank?

I don't need a 7.5p ... I would like to be able to run a small hand grinder and a small sander .. for my sculpture work. I was told the $1400.00 unit may not keep up?

Maybe I should call them and ask them what model is the entry level low speed.

If your wanting a true American Made compressor, Saylor-Beall is still just that, but your going to have to pony up the extra $. Their one of the best all American compressor companies still standing!

The Quincy catalog designation is QT5-80V, which just means QT series (splash lubricated), 5 hp, 80 gal tank, Vertical.
The specific model number shown in the links above specify further details (pressure switch or mag starter, manual or auto drain, low oil shutoff, and other options/packages), but it's the same base unit.

When I was at Lowes last week for my material run I saw that they now have Quincy compressors for sale in their 60 and 80 gallon sizes. I may check them out when I go back. I'm almost ready to upgrade from my 30 gal. craftsman

Found this thread while searching for "Quincy Noise". Just bought my 60 gallon Quincy last month. Very happy with it. Just a little too loud, looking to mask some of the noise. After 30 days it still scares the **** out of me when it kicks on. Maybe it's me. lol.

oh yea, my Quincy has a big old Made in the USA sticker and flag on it. 90% of the reason I bought it over the IR.

The $1,389.41 Quincy at Lowes appears to be a cheapened version. Or maybe they are showing the wrong picture? That looks like the Quincy 3.5Hp single-stage model.

Otherwise you can get a better one for the same price from these guys:

I have a Quincy QT series compressor, and it has pressure lubrication system with an oil filter.

I quite sure then that's either a PLT or QR series, or (possibly) someone added it after the fact.

I was in your same predicament a few months ago. I needed a decent compressor for in house painting and sandblasting. Mind you, there is not a whole lot of sandblasting being done at a time, but I did need something reliable and had decent CFM for my budget. I know a 7.5 or 10 HP or even a screw drive would be ideal, but too far out of my price range.

I shopped and shopped and shopped. Had my mind set one either a vertical IR 60 gal 2 stage compressor or a Quincy QT5. After doing a week of research I decided to go with the more dependable Quincy.

I looked at Northern Tool and AirCompressorDirect and they were ~$1,300 for the QT5-60V. That's a 5hp motor 2 stage, vertical 60 gallon tank. Great deal right? I ordered it, and ordered that warranty. The day before it shipped I noticed something funny with the warranty, I wasn't going to get the oil and filters. I call NT and ask WTF? They say their webpage was messed up and did not display the right info, so the warranty I *Thought* I ordered really wasn't what I was going to get. Soo I asked them to fix it and give me the oils and filters, they said no. I said CANCEL.

I called my local Quincy rep up and explained the situatiuon, and asked for a price quote. I was quite surprised when they quotes me $2,050 for what I thought was the same compressor. Turns out, The $1300 compressor that you see everywhere with the V cylinders is not entirely made by Quincy and it has the wrong starter on it, which is expensive to replace. It uses some Quincy parts. The only motor made my Quincy is the side by side NOT the V cylinder pumpe. The gentleman told me they have to fix these things all the time and since they have the wrong starter box they go out a lot quicker.

Quincy does not stand behind the V cylinder model, warranty was through Northern Tool for parts only.

I purchased the QT5 from my local Quincy rep for a little over $2200 with warranty, came with oil and filters for 1 year, and my warranty is for parts AND labor up to the cost of the entire unit.

Hands down best compressor I've ever owned.

The speed consideration for noise is for the motor -- normally it is in the 3400 range and the quiet ones are the 1800 range -- I forget the exact RPM's.

Wow! Those definitely weren't on there 7-8 months ago. I purchased this model, but with a 60 gallon tank... Damn..

According to the website this runs at 942 RPM. Mine is pretty quiet

I bet the one you got is the best compromise -- I don't think I want the size of the 80 gal tank.

I mentioned above ---- the slow speed refers to the motor not the pump.

Hmm, well that's good to know.

I will tell you this though, back when I was looking Quincy was not selling these models or even showcasing them on their website or in their store. Not saying you're wrong at all, I am just surprised of the recent changes. They must have had a high demand for these V models as of late
