Well, it’s been years in the making, but today I had a big frigg’n Quincy air compressor delivered with the plan to get it into the loft. This beast weighs 500 pounds, but it’s the reason I put the lift where I did and also the reason I had my electrician run 220 to the corner of a future loft when I had the garage built.

The FedEx dude did a great job getting the compressor into my garage without messing up the floor.

Using a bunch of scrap wood from my loft project, I built a platform so that the top part would be level with the loft with the lift all the way up. Everything was screwed together and was actually quite stable.

I wasn’t sure if my teens sons and I could lift this monster up to the platform. We each grabbed a leg with one hand and stabilized the top heavy compressor with the other... it worked!

With the hardest part behind us, the lift worked like a champ to raise it up to the loft floor.

From there, we simply slid it onto the loft floor and then used a combination of sliding it on plastic and walking it back on its legs to the far corner.

All of the measurements worked! It fit like a glove.

Now I have to connect the electric and get it plumbed with a drain, filter and dryer. I may have to buy some accessories too!

It was a big stress relief when we got the beast into the loft. I wasn’t sure if the 3 of us could handle it, but it was a total success!

Man that’s cool. That’s the compressor I want too. I’ve been eying my loft for a compressor also. Do you plan to Wall it in up there to contain the noise? What will you do for a condensation drain with it up there? Automatic drain valve maybe?

I was so confused, I could not see anything but that really freaking cool floor!

I did look again and I can now see the compressor, it is cool too, but only because it is blue........ ;)

Yes, planning an auto drain out the side of the building.

Funny, thank you.

Probably would have taken the pump and the motor off and moved those separately to avoid riding on a platform with such a top heavy load. Those clamps holding the platform to the lift legs also seem a little dicey. Glad it worked out well but someone could have easily lost their footing, etc. A little extra planning/disassembly could have minimized those risks.

The clamps weren’t needed... just there to keep the wood from sliding. It was quite stable.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I own that same compressor, and it’s far from quiet. I can almost guarantee that you’ll be adding plans to build an insulated enclosure around it. Congrats on the new compressor!
