Quincy vs Champion compressors

I've narrowed down my choices of compressors to either a Quincy QT-7.5 Max http://www.tptools.com/Quincy-Max-75HP-2-Stage-80-Gal-Vertical-Air-Compressor,6268.html?b=d*8070or a Champion 7.5 Advantage http://www.tptools.com/Champion-75HP-2-Stage-80-Gal-Air-Compressor,805.html?b=d*8066. The stats for these two compressors are pretty close although this website says the pump speed of the Quincy is 720 RPM but the Quincy brochure says 1026 RPM. The Champion pump warranty is pro-rated for 5 years whereas the Quincy is 100% for 5 years, if you buy a maintenance kit every year. Champion head valves are 1 year vs Quincy valve plate for 2 years. Champion motor and tank are 5 years vs Quincy for 2 years.
If I don't buy through mail order, the Quincy distributor with a parts dept is about 20 miles away vs Champion in the next state, >75 miles away. Buying through the local dealer, the Quincy is about $700 more then the Champion.
Both of these company's compressors are ranked high for quality on various websites I've gone to seeking information. I'm looking for opinions from people and hopefully from someone in the compressor repair business that knows these compressors, as to whether or not the Quincy is worth the extra money. :dunno: Thanks in advance.

Quincy cost more than Champion? That's opposite what I'd expect to find. both are very good industrial quality American made units.... Flip a coin and decide that way, either will serve you well.

I'm in maintenance and we had several Quincy compressors at the hospital that ran trouble free for many years.

I was 100% set on a Quincy for my home shop but when I compared the 5hp/ 80 Gal Quincy and Champion models side by side at TP Tools, I changed my mind

The Champion was noticeably quieter and had a slower pump speed which I figured would add to the lifespan of the unit and reduce condensation in the lines (I paint)

I have two Champions and have no regrets with either one... At some point it starts to become a Ford vs. Chevy debate. Either brand would likely last you for decades of use.

I think Champion has iron heads and Quincy has Alum. Quincy is prone to head leaks do to different contraction rates from what I've read.

I bought the Champion from TP Tools. I'm very happy with it. The best part is how quiet it is. I can stand at my blast cabinets about 10 feet from it and talk on my cell phone while I'm blasting and the compressor is running.

I have the QT 7.5. On the plus side, it makes plenty of air and is well built. On the minus, I would say it's "loud", but my main issue is that most often it does not start "smoothly"- it's somewhat violent. I assume this is because it has a 3450 rpm motor and the pump does not unload.

I bought it locally in 2003 and it was $1650 + tax then

I had a compressor that looked like this, but was a Quincy and had two motors and cylinders at each end. I got it off of a remodel job I did at a college. It looked brand new and only ran the thermostats for a few years. Thing was cherry. I offered the superintendent of the job a $100 for it. He said he wasn't sure. Then he approached me a couple weeks later and said to get it the hell out of there for FREE. Great right? Well, I had to got to California for four and a half years so I stored at my Dads place where my brother runs his masonry business out of. Two weeks before I get back form Cali. my brothers little henchmen workers knew I was coming back in a couple weeks scrapped it. They like to make a little money on the side scrapping. They are probably lucky if they got $10 for it. I think I would have felt better if they had sold it. F**kRS  It burns me up every time I think about it. Oh well, I guess I have my loud a$$ Cman 30 gal oil less to drown out the angry words running through my head. Don't think I will ever get over that one. Needless to say I don't speak with my dip sh*t of a brother anymore for that and a whole host of other things. So I guess you can say I want a Quincy. My Quincy, But I would take a Champion too.:) Sorry for the rant. I had to get it off of my chest.

Sorry to hear about your compressor. A similar thing almost happened to me. My niece and her family were about to be kicked out on the street so we (my brother, sister, and I own my mother's house) allowed them to stay rent-free in our house. My brother told me that my compressor was not in the garage; supposedly my niece's husband said that someone was going to try to fix it. It hadn't been run for several years and I imagine that the reed valves are just stuck. When I emailed him for the guy's name and telephone no., he never would tell me, but said that the guy was going to return it. I told him I hoped so, otherwise I was going to report it as stolen.
