Quonset Metal Building

Putting up a roughly 1700sf A style quonset building in an area which receives the most lightning in the US. I've been told to add six or eight 3/4" x 10' copper grounding rods under the footers & have them tied into the standard copper wire/rebar/ground rod connections. How to go about this or what would you recommend if not this? Thanks.

Look up "UFER ground".

What's the goal here? Even an indirect strike (nearby) by lightening is going to energize long runs of wire - everything from co-ax, cat 5/6, romex, all of it. Individual components "may" survive with surge protectors and you can put surge protectors on the main, but I'm not sure that there is any real protection against a direct strike.

But strike a metal building directly? IMHO, no amount of grounding is going to solve that problem. And we're not even talking about the heat generated at the strike - that's what destroys most stick homes that are directly hit.

Goal is to protect the integrity of the building itself to the degree possible. The local power company installs surge protectors at the breaker so to whatever degree possible counting on that to protect co-ax cat 5/6 romex etc.
