That is a really good price for a trane unit. I repalced one in middle america (trane 15 seer, 2.5 ton or 3 ton, single speed) this summer for 11k. All the qoutes i had were from 7k-13k. But we have a historic home, lots of complexity with the install and drains in the second floor attic and i had to make sure alot of things were done right by a company that had a really good reputation and has been around for decades. 10 year warrenty on parts AND labor.
There were other installers that had cheaper tranes or American standard, but it turned out they were using barebones, uninsulated cabinets and lower efficiency furnances with older burner designs that caused more sound. Also I forgot the term, but not all 15 seers are really certified as that, so you want to make sure you get one that’s been tested by an independent agency.
I’ve been happy with the install so far, especially with it being above our bedroom ceiling I never hear the thing operating besides the airflow.
