R-12 conversion help

i have a few question regarding a R-12 conversion on a condenser unit my buddy has.

i was told to use hot Shot (R-414B) in replacement for r12. sounds good but i want to know if i can add hot shot to the system with r12 still in it or do i replace the old r12 with the new r414b?

It is supposed to be weighed in, so if it had 2lbs 2oz you would weigh the Hot Shot and add it to a empty system, and it goes in as a liquid, other wise you could spoil the mixture. It uses 20% by weight, if I remember right. I've been out of the trade for a few years now. tt

I am a epa certified universal technician. Don't have a problem buying and refrigerants. Just haven't used hot shot any in the past 11 years and don't remember on the process.

I have a friend that is in the business and has a few pound of r12 but don't I don't think it will be enough to charge the system to work properly.


Can I just add hot shot to the r12 that is already there or do I need to replace it? I have read both ways on the net
