You could live trap them and then dump the trap into a 55 gallon drum filled with water to drown them that way you will not damage the pelt if you want to skin them. It is a pretty common thing to do around here. I don't care what anyone says they are vermin and around here they are no different than opossums,squirrels etc when it comes to killing them on sight.

Hey SCscoutguy, while I agree with you in part its kind of like the old saying "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". While you may be a deer, quail, pheasant or rabbit hunter and put these animal in a higher order than the fur-bearers and predators. I am a trapper and small game hunter. If I catch them I skin them and sell the pelts regardless of value. So it's also like the "one mans trash is another mans treasure" saying? Not even mentioning the fact that it's probably illegal?

I once had the same problem with Possums here and as they native it is illegal to kill them. I used to trap them and relocate them. I am sure they came back even after taking them and releasing them miles away.

When she was done with them the count would be 5 so far this year.Those bastards get in the attics of my barns and destroy everything, includeing wireing. They teardown the birdfeeders knock down the sweet corn in summer and as far as I'm concerned, good sport for the husky.

Look up **** hound paralysis... It is a very serious condition. My Dad's 100 pound German Shepperd got in a tangle with a **** and basically couldn't
move for weeks. He just had to lay on some towels over plastic because he was too heavy for my Dad to move. It was a mess to deal with. The dog did eventually recover, but it was an emotional, physical and financial burden for my Dad.

My ex's grandfather used to be a '**** hunter and his dogs has tangled with many a Racoon. A few ended up with broken legs and a couple were drowned by a Racoon. They definitely aren't the cute little Racoon we have on here.

I tried that as well. I think they did not come back but other Possums just moved into the area.

Brown the meat cubes slowly in a Dutch oven. There should be enough fat within the tissues that no additional oil is required. Add onions during the last of the browning process so they won't become scorched. Reduce the heat, add enough tomatoes and liquid to cover the meat, season and cover. Simmer over low heat until almost completely tender. Add cubed vegetables of your choice and continue to simmer until vegetables are tender. Serve hot with biscuits.

The dumpster has a lid but the wind blew it open over the weekend while I was away.
I once called 911 when a raccoon that appeared to be rabid was crawling across my backyard during daylight hours. Animal control would do nothing. A sheriff deputy showed up and he asked me if I had a gun. I responded that I did, and he asked me to get my gun and shoot it. He said he has to do a ton of paperwork if he fires his gun, so it was better for me to use mine.
The raccoons are still occupying the dumpster, but they are going to raccoon heaven tomorrow. I gave the condemned ones their last meal tonight, some old fruit that was buried in the back of the refrigerator. I have had too much damage from raccoons to let them go. I figure that raccoons and woodchucks are man's natural enemies, and it is us or them.

If you shoot them in the dumpster, wear safety glasses and ear plugs. If you've got two pairs of safety glasses, double them up.

I'd say you could poison them also but shooting them might be the best bet.

I tried the trap and release (about 3 miles aways). **** (which I'd marked) returned with a partner.

We've got a "no lunch trash" in our dumpster rule because of problems with ***** and rats.

After reading up on coonhound paralisys,there doesnt seen to be any documented connection between the disease and *****.Since the husky grabs them from behind at the neck and then proceeds to snap said neck while tossing them in the air a couple feet,I dont think shes at risk. The whole encounter usually takes less than30 seconds,and I have witnessed it two times.She can continue to hunt/kill all the ***** she wants around here!

I've actually used a live trap to get ***** and a groundhog out of the garage. The first time I took the **** out, I let him go and he bolted up the nearest tree. The problem is that they return and cause trouble. Now they get a .22 while still in the cage. SSS.

They're NOT "vermin". Vermin are lice, fleas, cockroaches, rats.
Just leave a piece of wood for them to crawl out with.

Sport isn't shooting anything to me; but it's certainly not shooting animals trapped in a 4x8 metal container.

Just live trap the dam things. And send them C.O.D. To Pasadena.
Problem solved. This way every one is happy.

It was the first time that any animal got trapped in the dumpster, and I have had the dumpster for 20 years. It was empty, the wind blew the cover open and I was away for the weekend. Since it was emptied the day before I left, there was no food inside. Perhaps the raccoons had fed there in the past and did not know it was empty when they went it.

Good work OP! I wont even describe the damage they have caused around my property. Last summer was a bumper year for them around here as they were everywhere. I even had problems with them when I went camping.

You can build a plywood box live trap for them as well.

I kill about 30-40 ***** a year on my property by various means; Shot, shell, trap, poison, etc.

When they start attacking my prize chickens, I'll turn into a medieval sob real quick.

Deer (vermin in some peoples eyes)are a huge problem in the Midwest eating crops and gardens including some of mine.... It would be impossible for me to shoot this guy I found when going out to my garden last year.

We have a gas burning fireplace in our bedroom that has a chimney attached and we had a mother **** have babies in there. Had the city out and all they would do is try to trap the mother. Never knew ***** scream and dig so much, the wife moved out of the bedroom after a week of it after about 5 weeks I lowered a rag on a string soaked in ammonia down the chimney and that night I moved out of the bedroom the screaming ***** were now pissed off. Mamma **** moved babies out that night!!
By the way that night I came home from work there was a chimney cap on the chimney, wife said she wasn't waiting on me any more, paid a chimney guy to install it. Oh well!

^^^ Amonia is very effective. I had some racoons denning in the attic of my shed last winter. I put an amonia soaked rag in a small plastic tub with a lid on it. I punched some small holes in the lid so they could smell it and they were gone in no time. I made a few minor repairs to the shed soffits in the spring and haven't had a problem since.

We have a chronic problem with raccoons around here.

Raccoons dig under my porch, rip my porch screens, tear into everything outside and killed a kitten.

Killing them was the only correct answer.

Wild animals are going to do what they do naturally no matter what you do. You just want to make sure they don't do it to you and your property. We have racoons, squirrels, foxes, rabbits, skunks, ducks, mice and I'm sure others I don't know about running around in our yard all the time. I wouldn't have time to kill them all if I wanted to. I'd rather spend time making sure they don't get into things I don't want them to. It's not that hard.

They are harming stuff. Just because they arent harming anything while trapped in the dumpster, they will destroy stuff when let go. Cheers to the OP!
