Race Deck Clatter

I'm getting real close to pulling the trigger on this, but am concerned about the clatter this type of flooring has when walked on.
Is there any type of underlayment that can be used and how succesfull is it?

I think one person here used that very thin foam padding that goes under floating wood floors. It was a concern for me but I'm not sure I really experience the clatter when walking on my floor. the tile is fully in contact with the floor, I do note a bit of hollow sound when walking on it. But I think it's worth the trade off in that ever so slight bit of "give" the racedeck floor has vs. standing on bare concrete, I'm glad I did it.

I believe I've read that some use landscape fabric. I would think that would be a good option as it should hold up well.

I've never understood the big deal over "clatter". So what if a garage floor makes noise when you are walking on it. After all, it's a garage...not a library.

Quit worrying about and work in your garage, I had my Racedeck down for somewhere around a year before a friend asked me about the noise, I had not noticed. He was right it does make some noise, so little I had not noticed. I told him if he did not like we could push his car out and he could the ****** repaired elsewhere.

Its barely noticeable... if that is all you are worried about, you need a wife or something

Hehe, for me, I wasn't liking the clattering issue. Things like that bug me.

So, before I put down the tiles, I put down some of the cheap underlayment used for laminated floors. I got it at Lumber Liquidators for 14 cents a sqft.

It made a nice cushion for the floor. No sounds, expect the little bit of crackly pop of the air bubbles in the underlayment letting go.

I put it down to remove the clatter, to provide some insulation and to protect the untreated concrete underneath. Taped all the joints.

It was kind of pain to keep it all lined up but I think it was worth it.

Not sure I get the issue here either. I've had my floor for a couple of months now and I love it. There are lots of noises in my garage since I store a big noisy machine in there. I do notice some noise but it really does not have any impact on me at all. If it really does bother you, by all means put something under it because you don't want to miss out on owning this quality floor.

I put my floor down a couple months ago, it is GarageDeck (private label Racedeck product sold by BigFloors). After reading some suggestions elsewhere I did put down the foam underlayment used for floating floors (like Pergo). I went to the big box hardware store and got the cheapest one they had, it was about .25/sf or so. The stuff I got already had an adhesive tape strip on one edge of the roll so that made it easy to tape the joints together.

I think it makes a difference however all I did to compare was put down a small area w/o the foam and yes it "clacks". I have a few imperfections in the concrete and was concerned the tiles would be noisy over those areas, went with the foam and I like the results- very quiet. Not sure about landscape fabric, interesting idea and may meet the need too.

The clatter sounds cool, like Germans Goosestepping through a WWII movie! ROFLMAO! Sorry, I couldn't resist, I'm in a mood today. I would try the foam underlayment as recommended above, although I thought there was a thread on this before that mentioned not to use too thick of material. Try a search and see if there is any more advice.

Just put down Racedeck this weekend and while it does make some noise, it is nothing too noticeable. Only time I really noticed it was when my 5 year old son came running through with his big lead feet. Normal walking, moving and you do not notice it. I am really liking how it dresses up the garage!!
