Race Deck for Me?

Hello All

I am brand new to this site, and find it a wealth of information. In fact it has helped me tremendously in picking out a floor for my garage.

I will give you some back ground I have a 22X22’ attached garage in Calgary AB, Canada. The garage is 45years old but in excellent shape, no cracks or pits. However the previous owner was very sloppy with paints.

At this point I am thinking the RaceDeck floor is the option for me, I do have some concerns that I have not been able to find the answers to in this forum and am hoping some of you may help me out.

1) Calgary can have extreme weather, and I plan on parking my daily driver on the floor, so I expect a good deal of mud, snow, salt, gravel and water to be deposited on the floor. In addition I am a wood worker so on the weekends the truck is pulled out, and my wood working tools are rolled out and large amounts of saw dust is a problem. With this type of use is RaceDeck appropriate?
2) As mentioned above I am a wood worker and most of my equipment is on mobile bases, how well do they roll on the diamond series tiles? And how easy is sweeping into a pan or shovel with the diamond tiles?
3) I also have concerns with noise when walking on the tiles, it has been mentioned on previous posts but not in depth.

I look forward to your responses

I also do everything you mentioned in your post. Ive had no probs over the last 7-8 years with my racedeck.

As for sweeping the floor, a broom gets alot up but a shopvac makes it easier.

The floor making noise isnt noticeable (at least not to me). I mean, I just dont even notice it.

I live in Chicagoland, so by the end of winter I have a huge mess on it. In spring I get out the bucket and mop and go over it once or twice. Then I get down on my hands and knees and clean it with a towel and soapy water.

I just do that once a year, and its only because Im sorta picky. I like to start off spring really fresh. Get back into the groove.

Good luck

I just installed RaceDeck, and had similar concerns over the sound and feel of floating tiles. I've got a room with Pergo in it, and hate the feel and sound of it. The RaceDeck is a floating floor, and won't have that feel of say concrete or set tile. That said, I actually like the feel of the RaceDeck in the garage. It's a lot more comfortable than a hard surface, and if you're on it for a long time like all day, that comfort makes a difference! It is a little noisier, but doesn't bother me as much as I thought it would. It also isn't as cheap feeling and sounding as the Pergo.

As far as sweeping, I just use a shopvac (I actually have a central vac unit in the garage, and it has an extra port on the unit). I also use a leaf blower to just blast everything out the door quickly!!
