Can you weight the two tiles with a scale that measures in ounces?

I'd be curious to know the difference.

I'm not worried about the "coins" showing through the bottom side. It's unlikely that's going to be a point of failure unless the thickness is thinner.
If you weight them and the weight is sufficiently different, you might have more of an answer. (Otherwise micrometer the thickness).

The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.

I plan on performing a more extensive review when the other samples arrive.

I will weigh and measure each tile. I also plan on cutting each tile to measure the top thickness.

Hi Jeff
If you ask for Jennifer in our office, she will send you you various samples - we have many styles other than the original RaceDeck Diamond. Tell her I said to send you a TuffShield, REVolution, and any other that you are considering ( maybe an XL?) All of our modular flooring sizes are US Imperial sizes, not import metric design. We offer more styles of flooring than all our competitors combined, somethingnfor every application and budget....Be sure to tell her that I had you contact her...thanks
Have a great weekend.

I just ordered some Swisstrax samples as well. I have another Garage to do and a Pool deck possible. The Swiss tiles are 13" and will need a correction factor.

The 13" square is almost a deal breaker to me. My design will use exactly 290 square foot tiles with no cutting or waste. That extra 1" creates problems for me. But, to be fair, I will review their tile just like every other tile.

On a side note...bigfloors.com has shipped my tile sample order. I'll start the measurements and cutting sometime next week.

I'm all for quality products, but when you can buy two floors for the price of one, you really have to start to wonder how many tiles are going to go splitting into pieces causing you such pain an agony.

Thanks for the offer, but I've already ordered and paid for samples of GarageDeck, GarageTrac, CircleTrac, and MotoFloor. This should keep me busy for a while.

I received 1 free sample tile from Race Deck. I had to pay for the other 7 samples.

Not sure where some of these prices are coming from but at BigFloors all of our modular garage flooring are only the highest quality USA made.( It should be noted, unlike many others, that every product on site is USA made)
We have floors from below $2.00 sg ft including shipping. We also carry the top of the line RaceDeck®, though I do not think we can match what the GJ members discounted price on RaceDeck.

You paid for samples from RaceDeck? if that is the case, let me know in PM and I will get you a full credit. In you post it says you ordered tiles from BigFloors?

Yes, I ordered and paid for sample tiles from BigFloors, FloorJunkies, Norsk-Stor, and Gladiator. SwissTrax was kind enough to send a free sample, as was Race Deck.

Bigfloors.com is owned by SnapLock, who owns Race Deck. While I didn't pay for samples from Race Deck itself, I did pay for samples from BigFloors/SnapLock which included the Race Deck brand.

New guy here, looking at GarageDeck to do my 10x24 garage, and I too am wondering what the quality differences are between the Race and Garage products. If they're both owned by SnapLock, I'm under the impression that they're going to be pretty similar, no? Comparing the two on BigFloors, it looks like the underside is different, with the ribbing on the bottom being a bit more robust on the Race, but the Garage having more support ribs, which would probably make them about equal as far as support. The snap locks look to be pretty similar. Being on more of a budget, the GarageDeck really appeals to me, as I can do my entire 240 sq.ft floor for under $600. I won't be doing any ******** mechanical work in there like jacking cars up, but it will be used for car storage during the winter, which is pretty rough and very salty.

Anyone ever used the GarageDeck product themselves? Seems like most people here spring for the Race product.

EDIT: Well I ordered today. GarageDeck is now 1.73/ft on bigfloors so I couldn't pass it up. Here's the design I made up, I can't wait for it to be delivered!!

For the love of jeebus, can one of the vendors (racedeck1, bigfloors?) provide specifics (rather than just assertions) about how the cheaper bigfloors.com products, such as garagedeck, is actually superior to the floorjunkies.com product? Pretty please? Moving in (hopefully) 1week...

There are a lot of good garage flooring tiles on the market and obviously racedeck is one of them. I would not let price be the final factor. If you buy a quality product, you will live with it for a long time. Over the life of the product, even $1.00 per Sq. Ft. is not worth changing your mind over.

I will say this about RD. We all have issues. When issues have been posted on this forum Jorgen resolved them right away.

In the overstock section I noticed some blue tiles for that price.

Yeah, but only in blue. I'm a beggar AND a chooser. ;)

Actually,I might get the blue anyways. Trying to find some good photos of garages done with large swaths of it to see how it looks...

Here ya go poundsand, this should suffice :)

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33185

Also, I just checked my order, and the stuff didn't check out at the 1.73 price I could have sworn I saw yesterday. That's kinda weird, I'm almost positive it was 1.73, interesting. Although now that I do the math, that would be 415 for the 240 sq/ft I need, and I don't ever remember seeing the price go that low while doing the design on the BF website, so maybe I was seeing things lol. Either way, it's still cheaper than the 1.99 price I saw a few days ago (I think, but could be wrong) that what it was at first, and it's still 1.93, so hop on it now!

Had some "Fun" with my RD yesterday. I needed to repair a sprinkler head. I was checking the levels in the PVC primer. I kinda shook the can before opening to get a feel for how much was in it. I opened the cap and like 5 nickel sized drops of that Purple PVC primer hit the tile.

Now I got it all over my hands, it's dripping down the can, and I need to get it cleaned up and safe before it marks up all kinds of other stuff before I can clean the floor!

So I get my hands cleaned up, and the primer can where it can't do any more harm and grab a paper towel, and I was thinking, well, now we'll se if this stuff is as impervious as they say it is!

Wiped up with one swipe from a paper tile.

I was like, "Look at that Chit"!

They're tellin'the truth!

broken tabs...

So I got me some of those blue tiles, and some graphite and alloy garagedeck tiles too. Couple questions (sent a message to bigfloors.com but haven't heard back):

1- Some of the female tabs on the tiles (~6 tiles) were broken. I installed them anyways, because, well, I wanted me some instant gratification. :lol_hitti Now I'm having some second thoughts - you guys think there might be issues down the road from the broken tabs?

2- I also ordered some of the tapered edges. Some of the edges don't lay flat and stick up. There's nothing under them - I suspect it's because the tabs on the tiles were bent to begin with. Any way to flatten these guys out and get them to lay flat?

Thanks!

So you ordered some Tiles...

They arrived broken...

You didn't call the company to get them replaced...

You used them anyway?

Did you pay for them?

only about 6 of the tiles were broken. like i said, it was an instant gratification issue- i arrived home at about 7pm (pacific), and they were there, and i went ahead and knocked out the install. :D company hasn't responded to email (email is much easier for me than phone during business hours).

of course i paid for them. they don't ship on good faith do they? :D

I did follow-up with RD and the price remained the same.

I was referred to the bigfloors.com website, which is a part of RD. The Garage Deck tiles looked exactly like the Floor Junkies tiles @ 1.99 sq. ft.

All I wanted was info and advice on my shop flooring purchase. I didn't realize that RD has such a big influence on GJ, including sending new members in to tout their products with written fluff.

GJ has always been 'the' place for good tool and shop information. Now I'm not so sure.

If you do a search, you will find my "Floor Junkies review" with lots of pictures. I took a little heat for going against the grain, but I don't much care. Floor Junkies had the best price, and now they make their product in the USA. So that argument is out the window.
There have been some posters of other products that have claimed their tiles warp somewhat in the heat, then recover when it cools down. Here in southern New Mexico, we had a lot of 100 degree days this summer, and my Floor Junkie tiles had no warping at all.
Everyone is amazed at how great they make my garage look.
I'm a more than satisfied customer.

Hmmm, you said you got "some". Most of this thread was about samples.

Lots of people sampling.

gotcha. no, i didn't 'install' a few samples. i've got a whole garage floor of the stuff. ;D

so no comments on my actual questions i take it?

Does that come w/ fries? :D Just kidding - awesome looking garage with cool theme!

I'm starting w/ a custom paint scheme and have Gladiator cabinets (from my previous house) to install. A MaxJax is on order. But a floor deck will be the next step in the process. Threads like this should help me decide which floor to go with - in time.

I'm sure if you call them, they will send you new ones.

I would not have laid them

Did you shoot pix before you put them down?

Susan from bigfloors contacted me - they're going to send some new tiles. I don't expect any issues with the broken tabs, but it'll be nice to have the new ones if I have to pull any. Still not sure about the edges sticking up- and I don't recall if they said they were going to send any new edges. :D

I did take a picture of the broken tile and sent it along with my email...

My edges that get Sun during the day along the Garage door curl up and then when the SUN passes, they lay down. Did you tell the company about the edges?

Yeah, the questions above labeled 1 and 2 were pretty much what I emailed them. It isn't the heat / sun with mu install, because they were pointing up / out on install, which was at like 10pm... I was hoping they'd lay down, but they haven't changed.

hello, I am glad I found this board. I am looking at doing a floor in my garage also. I just received my sample from Race Deck a couple days ago. I was considering the larger 18" tiles instead of the 12". My garage floor is 28 x 28.
Do most of you go with 12" tiles? is it because of the look or design?

I live in New Hampshire so I was wondering if any of you know how the finish holds up on all these tile floors with some snow and salt falling on them.

I was surprised that the quote they emailed me was a little high, so I thank you all who provided names of other companies that I can check with and compare. Price, quality, durability and service are all important to me.

I think 18" would be good in that size garage. I laid mine as 24x24" because I liked the larger pattern in a larger garage. Mine is 30x24'

Work the design tool to see if the pattern works out. You would hate to have to cut 2 walls worth of 18" tiles just to get a small edge. Spend a lotof time with that design tool! Don't get in a hurry. Look at every pattern in the Gallery like 5 times!

Thanks for the reply Les Garten. I looked at your pictures, your floor came out nice.
I am going to keep trying to get a bit more info on durability due to snow and salt. I really like the shiny finish but am afraid that will not hold up either.

The shineyness is what sent me to a Tile to begin with.

I've seen Plastic/Vinyl Type tiles in buildings for a long time and noticed the Patina they take on.

I also knew that putting a "Paint Job" on my floor would drive me crazy over time. That first scratch and scuff would be the start of a cosmetic downhill slide. So Epoxy, even though I loved the look, wouldn't be right for me. It also was almost as expensive to do right as the RD.

I also was worried about the Epoxy floor screwing up and separating or bubbling or whatever and all that $$$ down the drain and having a bigger mess than what I started with.

So I just put down the RD and treat it like a garage floor. If the tiles get a Patina, no worries.

I'm sure the RD folks have made a surface that is very durable though, so shiny may work for you. Sure looks nice in the pictures.

Good luck, and remember, we Love Photos!
