Racedeck and dirt?

I mountain bike regularly and store muddy bikes in my garage, so dirt is a frequent visitor to my garage.

Is racedeck/motofloor good flooring for this situation? Im concerned that the dirt and sand will work its way down into the cracks and cause gritty noise and wear. Ease of sweeping out is also a concern
I bought some motofloor a while back and Im having second thoughts for this reason.

thanks for the thoughts and input

The seams are pretty tight, and cars & trucks drag debris into the garage without issue. I would not think a bicycle will would cause any issue. If you needed to get under the floor at the end of the season, it is very easy ..

Hi,

I have the same concerns as I've been thinking of covering my floors with GarageDeck. Is your issue with MotoFloor because of the seam between the tiles or because of the pattern of the tiles?

I was thinking that the excessive patterns would catch dirt, etc. and make sweeping out much harder than if it were smooth or mostly smooth like MotoFloor. Unfortunately MotoFloor is more expensive and adds several hundred to my instillation so I was thinking about GarageDeck instead. I wish they had an inexpensive smooth or almost smooth design that did not trap dirt and dust.

For your issue of dirt getting down into the seam, if you have the flooring where you want it, would it be practical to seal the seams somehow? A quick, thin application of silicone or something like that to keep dirt out of the seams?

Hi

We do have a smooth top version of flooring, please contact us for information on those.

As for 'sealing' seams... I strongly discourage this as the floor is free-floating and the patent locking system is active for expansion and contraction on temperature swings, the seams are there for a reason. If you seal or fasten in any way, the floor will not function properly.
We sell millions of feet of garage flooring each year and have many millions of garages over the last dozen plus years and dust getting through the seams really is not an issue. My floor has been in place for almost 10 years and we have serious winters here in the mountains of Utah and L never removed my floor to address an issue with dust and dirt. Had I needed to, it would be very easy to unlock a tile or section and vaccum up.

Cheers:beer:

Hi,

Thanks for the response RD.

The floor I have in mind is not concrete and not completely smooth-flat. It's a second story room. If I laid down some RaceDeck or GarageTrack or whatever is the lowest priced option you have for me, would walking on it cause it to shift or buckle with edges popping up or is it semi-flexible and would give and take with the uneven surface and people walking on it, etc.?

I can tell you from my experience doing my RaceDeck install yesterday, I got filings and dust from cutting all the edge pieces all over part of the floor that I had already finished laying down. Weather was bad here yesterday so I could not do my cutting outside. Anyway, even with the diamond pattern, it was very easy to sweep up with a regular size push broom. Just as easy as sweeping my epoxy floor. The tops of the tiles are really smoth, and the diamond patter is gradual more like _/\_ and not _[]_ if that makes sense so it was pretty easy to just sweep the dust and shavings right over it. Plus, the patten is only a few millimeters raised off the surface... I would not see the inability to sweep dirt being a concern.
