RaceDeck and Static

In my last house we had our gym equipment on carpet, but in the new house we have it on RaceDeck. With the dry winter air I am getting zapped left & right every time I walk across the room to grab some weights. I would have thought plastic would have prevented the static build up, no?

Pvc can generate quite a bit of static electricity, especially in low humidity conditions. Try touching something metal before you walk across the race deck to discharge.

Unfortunately the whole room is metal, it's a weight room.

I don't have any first-hand experience, but it's been mentioned on this forum that the floor can be wiped down with a laundry anti-static product. If you contact RaceDeck I'm sure they can give you more info.

In data centers with carpet floors they used to spray downy on the carpet where the carpet tiles weren't grounded, you could try spraying or mopping some downy on the tiles to see if it helps.

Im under the impression that this happens when you are in front of your weight rack only?

Is there some sort of anti-static mat you can put where your weight rack is? That way the static would discharge when you are standing to grab your weights. Worth looking into...I know they must make them for computer equipment...

OR, if you dont want to spray chemicals like Downy on your racedeck, you can buy a mat/carpet for your weights and spray that with Downy....

I don't really want to put down matts or carpet as I slide the weights and bench all across the floor for different exercises. I guess I could try attaching a fabric softener sheet to the bottom of a swifter mop and see if that helps.

Very simple. Avoid the gym like the plague.

That's what I do. Stay fat and why take chances of getting shocked.

I had an office chair, plastic mat, and carpet combo that would shock the fire out of me every time I wheeled back at my desk. I found some anti-static spray, sprayed it on the mat, and never got shocked again. Get some of this - it will solve the problem:

There may be something in the garage / house that is causing the static to not go away? we offer a anti-stat solution for customers in electronic & computer labs. But you can spray or mop in any laundry anti-stat to eliminate the issue.
