After moving into a new home in eastern NC for my wife, 2 small pups, and me – I finally make the BIG commitment… That’s right a flooring decision. After finding this forum when someone had made mention on GRM forum about the Mid-Century Modern Makeover, I fell into this rabbit hole and may never make it out of here… And that’s okay – and I’ve searched, read, and soaked in many threads on flooring and garage cabinets these past 4 months.
I have painted about 4 different garage floors in the past ten years with Big Box paint and prep kits. Only one proved to be durable and not pull up with warm, wet tires, so I refused to go that route! So my new, favorite interweb forum helped me come to the decision to spend some hard-earned $ on RaceDeck.
About 2 months ago I decided on Free-Flow tiles and created 3 to 4 different layouts as I zero’d in on my simple but effective layout design. Ordered one sample FreeFlow, showed it to SWMBO --- and was instantly shot down. ☹ She had no love for the open design no matter how well I explained it can be vacuumed out, blown out with the leaf blower… Whatever I did to defend my one little 12” tile of Free-Flow, she wasn’t picking up what I was putting down.
So, as my title states, I went with CircleTrac and jumped in with both feet last week when RaceDeck had a one-day Spring Sale. Made 1 phone call, they had my design on-hand, added some black 3” edge tiles, and had eleven boxes sitting in NC 4 days later.

Cleaned off the floor. (Yes, we’re still getting settled in – sort of a part-time home for us at this point…)

Started at the Left Front corner by the roll-up door of this 21’W x 23’ Deep small garage, laid out my L pattern and kept a constant watch of the approx ½” open edge along that side wall.

And kept stomping my two sore feet for the next 3-1/2 hours until I reached my stopping point for the night.

Started back the next evening and trimmed the entire RH wall strip, tile by tile, with my 5-1/2” Ryobi 18v saw to custom fit the row and leave that ½” gap in place.

Trimmed up and created 4 small tile strips from the leftover pile to fill in a gap along the passenger door.

Overall, I am quite pleased with the outcome. There is a little bit of a “click-clack” as you walk in the garage, but it’s nothing that could be considered over-the-top loud or annoying.
And yes, I carefully coordinated my flooring and the new competition orange Homak RS Pro tool box! And the next time I’m here, I’ll finish up around the steps and back wall. Then, I’ll focus on cabinetry and garage storage. The house is 2-3 yrs old and already had the lumber shelves built – not my favorite, but I’ll probably paint it porch gray and stack in some all matching plastic storage tubs to utilize the space…
