RaceDeck color selection - thoughts?

I love the look of RaceDeck free flow tiles and want to lay these in my garage. I have a 3 car "tandem" garage which is essentially an L-shaped garage that looks like the below.

I am debating between 3 color options: solid alloy, solid graphite, and checkered alloy/graphite. What do you all think? I am having a hard time making up my mind and its tough to find a lot of pics of these specific colors. Thanks for the insight!

I've done four garages of mine in RaceDeck. The first three were diamond tiles in a 4'x4' checkerboard. The one I did in Alloy/Graphite checker looked great. For my most recent, I used FreeFlow and I intentionally didn't do a "checker" pattern since I was ready for something different. I did a 3 color border pattern with black, red, and graphite tiles. Now that it's down, I really like this pattern.

Sadly I don't have the alloy/graphite pictures any longer. I do have pics of my last garge before the FreeFlow. This was alloy/blue in a 4'x4' checker. RaceDeck CA1.jpgRaceDeck CA2.jpg

I love the way the FreeFlow color shifts. I thought I was sold on epoxy, but now I'm starting to question it.

Thanks again for the pic. After seeing the first image you posted, I am now thinking that a graphite border with alloy center may be the way to go. Not as designed as a checkerboard but also not as plain as a single color.

Thanks for all of the input everyone! Keep the pics and comments coming, always fun to see and read everyone's ideas.

Ill have to reach out to RaceDeck soon to get some pricing. A buddy of mine just ordered flooring from them and had a great experience.

Quick update - I ordered the floor! I went with a 2ft graphite border with the whole center being alloy. Excited to get it and install it. I have always wanted to do something like this in my garage.

Cool, I'll be interested to see how it looks. I'm considering a RaceDeck floor and I'm not really into the multi colored/checkerboard/etc designs.

I went with alternating black and gray with a bold red threshold strip. Love how understated it is.
Would you mind sharing some photographs of your floor? I'm about to order and am second guessing my design. Looking for ideas that might appeal to me.

Thanks everyone for sharing your designs. Now that I’ve put together a pattern i like, I’m getting cold feet about pulling the trigger on the purchase. $3K is a lot of money for a garage floor.

Yes, pretty much still in training. I began planning my garage make-over and came across this site as I was searching for options/ideas. Good forum with great people!

Mine was just about $3k as well for FreeFlow. Worth every penny. It went down in a day and was way cheaper than doing a coating.

Did you consider using swisstrax over racedeck? It appears swisstrax, with their thicker tile, doesnt require gaps around the perimeter for expansion. ( as explained by swisstrax). This would provide a cleaner installation. The guy at obsessed garage says he likes it better; and that the thicker tile is quieter to walk on.

I'm not sure if swisstrax's thicker tile is in fact any better. Does it really matter being 1/4" thicker? I don't mind paying extra for swisstrax if it is indeed a better product. But, if racedeck is just as good; then I'd rather save some money and go with racedeck.

Any comments comparing swisstrax to racedeck would be GREATLY appreciated!

After using RaceDeck on four of my garages, I never even considered swisstrax. Don’t get hung up on that gap around the edges, you won’t even notice it. I used 3/8” spacers for the gap on mine, with no issues.

Keep in mind that you’re going to be cutting tiles on two sides of your install. If you are looking for zero gap, you’ll be busy scribing tiles for irregularities in your walls too. Lastly, I can’t see a 1/4” thickness difference making the floor quieter to walk on. The FreeFlow is quiet when you walk on it.

You are correct, the thickness has nothing to do with being quieter. The open rib design of FreeFlow and FreeFlow XLC ( which is 3/4" tall and 18"x18" size making it the industries biggest), keep it quiet. The solid top tiles are a bit different in this aspect

I am a little late but here you go.
Graphite and alloy XL. The first two rows are freeflow the rest are solid diamond Racedeck.

Possibly controversial opinion; I prefer solid colors.

Now don't get me wrong I love all of these patterns I see, but for my own tastes I prefer solid colors only because my 'design' from color or features comes in other forms; posters, signage, paint, etc. I think a garage floor can easily look too busy, especially when you're starting to deal with items on the floor or tools, small parts, etc. I also think a solid color gives you more artistic flexibility later, especially if you roll with a neutral color like graphite, alloy, black, or even white. Your pops of color can come from almost anything else including the car itself.

In art, we often create a neutral gray background to let the subject pop, with colors not influenced by black, white, or other colors. There's also reflected light to consider where colors will tend to reflect on to your subject.

That's my opinion. Take it as ye like. :)
