RaceDECK Free-Flow....Awesome (NEW PICTS)

This is my first post and wanted to begin by thanking everyone for sharing experiences with different flooring options on the market. I live in Minneapolis where garages see some tough treatment over the year (salt, gravel, ect). I ended up choosing to install a RaceDECK Free-Flow floor and could not be happier with the entire process.

1) I was able to design the floor online and get my wife's buy in on the design.
2) Ashley at RaceDECK was friendly and great to work with during the ordering process. She answered my questions and helped me understand the differences in the products.
3) Rented a tile cutter from HD the kind that works like a shear with a straight cut off blade and produced perfect cuts. They were so clean you could not tell which side of the tile was cut off. Hint: Rent at 8:00 pm and you get it for the night <$25.
4) Put one layer of weed barrier under the primary walk area and it is super quite. Not sure if it was really necessary as the Free Flow decking seems real quite overall, maybe due to design.
5) Wife and girls love the floor, softer on feet and having replaced the glass in 4 IPads due to dropping on concrete should pay for itself in less than a year.

Overall very pleased with entire experience and have already sold three co-works on the process. That's +9 stalls. Jorgen any referral program? maybe some bling or RaceDECK gear?

I will be posting pictures soon...

If you have salt and gravel coming off the cars, won't it fill up the area under the RaceDeck? I just can't imagine what a mess that will be...

Congrats! Looking forward to the pictures.

Also, thanks for the tip on the tile cutter. With my current measurements, I may need to trim the wall side edges to allow for enough expansion and I wasn't looking forward to using my portable circular saw. I saw the tile cutter on the Racedeck install video and thought that would be the best approach.

Since I am planning limited cuts, the after 8PM rental idea should work out great!

For cutting tiles, I used a jig saw [saber saw] with a fine-toothed metal-cutting blade. Worked fine. I went slower than I usually would, cutting something, and not problem. Edges look perfectly straight.

I only had a few dozen tiles to cut, if you have more, a different method might be time-saving.

I had planned to use my table saw, but that night before I quit til the next day, I took one tile and used the jig saw just to see how it was gonna go. It went so well, I just never did set up the table saw. Very easy to cut cleanly if you take your time and go carefully.

This is my concern with this product as well...

Anyone have any experience with this issue and whether it's a big deal or not?

Jorgen, what's your experience here???

Thanks:)

This has been my concern too. With the gravel driveway, and the salt on the winter roads, I can't imagine it being all that easy to keep **** out of from under it.

There a few threads on this... Basically, the design of our flooring under structure is channeled to allow debris, water, et flow through and out the door. Whatever gets through the top will move through the bottom. Many wash their cars in the garage on FreeFlow, myself included..

I also wash every week on my free flow. Every now and them after it dries I hit it with a leaf blower to clean inside the tiles.

Clean and easy.

Love it.

I wonder if those large floor dusters, like the ones they use in schools, would work on Freeflow tiles to help keep them clean? I know you need to blow out or vaccum up the debris that gets underneath, however instead of a broom, perhaps a floor duster would work better.

Re: RaceDECK Free-Flow....Awesome (PICTs NOW)

OK..Here is the saga....

Let's start...Last year I decided to improve my garage. I thought well...I would stop by HD and buy a product to seal and color my floor. I sweep, power washed, acid etched, primed and rolled on a single part epoxy product. The floor looked good however it started to peel under car tires within a week. I was going to experiment with rugs or maybe some metal plate or clear plastic sheets like you see at house openings…. It all in all was a disappoint. I touched up a couple of times but things just got worse in other areas of the garage. I was set on resolving this issue in the spring and called around and looked at Angie's list. I sent an email to the number one installer in my area and waited..waited and waited. No contact. This is when I started to look into the project with greater detail. This is when I found the GARAGE JOURNAL. I read a bunch and adopted many ideas to the project.

Here is a list of things I did:

1) Started by painting all walls and trim. Used two different SW paints and have to say the Duration paint is worth the money. Covered well dried hard and is very washable in the satin.

2) Decided on RaceDeck FreeFlow flooring product. Live in MN and we have a rough time of things in the winter. I have a heated garage with floor drain so this product fit the bill extremely well. I can’t say enough for the RaceDeck Team. They answered questions and helped me decide many project specifics. It is a pleasure to deal with folks who really know their product.

3) Switched out all lighting to a LED lights. Very cost effective <$30 and looks great and gives off excellent light. This is a winner!!!

4) Installed NewAge cabinets. These came packed well and the fully welded structures are great. It took a half a day to unpack and place. I bought the Bold series. The doors and cabinets are plenty rugged enough for my purposes. I saw some comments about thinking these were light office cabinets…Not even close, the structure is welded, paint powder coat and the over feel is very industrial grade.

5. Installed switch plates and outlets from Loews. The red modern look rocks and was very easy to install. Overall not that much extra cost for the bling.

6. Have both fast track and husky track system. Originally installed the husky as a wall protector from garbage can scuffs, how ever repositioned and installed metal plates behind each.

7. Added some modern artwork to the wall. Had a large formate old Motherwell print and used this with piano hinge, magnets and corner braces to conceal electrical panels. Please do not lecture me on the 3 foot rule. The panels are in full metal electrical boxes and I will take the risk.

Overall extremely happy and have neighbors very envious of the setup, I have had 4 coworkers start the process of buying and installing the the RaceDeck Flooring. I will not mention all the benefits so you can do your own research. However this stuff just KICK's ***.....

THANKS EVERYONE,
(sorry for the delayed pictures)

Kevin

Couple more photos...
a few more items i unsnapped and re-snapped the floor in a couple of places...It was a breeze. I did this to move over the parking metal plates. If you are on on the fence about this product I highly recommend it over anything else I saw on the market. I am not associated with the company in any way just feel a good product made in USA deserves the praise. The LED lights ROCK as well new product at local HD they take about 5 mins to install on a can and they dim without any buzz also instant on...

It was well worth our wait, sir!

Came on here to say this exactly. Well done!

I'm also a huge fan of that flooring choice. And those Husky wall tracks are something i'm obsessed with, i have several, they are so useful.

It is the Alloy....Not to dark not to light. Probably close to the color of bare aluminum....now that I think of it....Alloy.

kfscinelli,

Those NewAge cabinets look interesting. They don't seem to be overly expensive and the Pro series are much deeper (24")than the run of the mill Craftsman/Menards/etc. and are made to sit on the floor with installed leveler feet so they are perfect to build a workbench with. I know you don't have the Pro series (which is what I am looking at) but what's your overall impression of these cabinets (especially the base cabinet/tool drawer?

The cabinets are well constructed nothing fancy but the guides are on bearing slides and work well. They do come with an inexpensive foam pad in each drawer. I do not put these in the same category as full fledged tool cabinet. However to store items they are fine. I looked at the pro series but for my purpose the shallower depth worked better with the Bold. I do like the leveling legs on the cabinet. They have four bolts per leg and are quite a bit thicker material. You can adjust each leg from the inside of the cabinet base with a blade screwdriver. This was nice once setup against the wall to get them in perfect balance. I attached the cabinets with 4 screws to studs and they are not going anywhere. I also liked the red color for what I was doing with the garage look. In looking for the best deal would go to the NewAge site and compare between vendors listed some come with free shipping others you pay for the shipping. The best deal for the bold series seamed to be Sears however each vendor has a little different package and I was interested in the tall cabinets.
