Hey everyone,

Long time lurker, first time poster! About to put in an order for Garagetrac with Jorgen/Racedeck but I have a weird issue that needs to be addressed first.

Six inches before where the garage door meets the floor, the concrete slab drops by an inch. Wanted to see what can be done to make sure the tiles can continue to the door seamlessly.

Any and all suggestions would be welcome. Thank you!

I have a similar situation, curious to see the answers. Only difference is in between my doors the concrete is normal floor height. So two troughs instead of one big one like yours. I had just accepted the idea for when I order my flooring next month that it would be a little recessed.

Stop the tiles at the edge of the floor, it's there to keep water from getting in the garage. If your design uses a border color paint the drop the same color.

This is exactly what I did. I just left the concrete as is. Here's a couple of pictures...

FINE guys :( I'll just stop the tiles there and paint the drop to match the border tile color.

JINKS, it's funny that it's there to prevent water ingress when my whole garage AND the driveway both slope outwards so I can't imagine a scenario where water would travel inwards. Maybe a standard design and the builders just did it to all the garages irrespective of slope. Go figure.

Thanks again for all the helpful ideas guys. Time to put my garagetrac order in.

Thank you,
Aziz

I live in hurricane territory & we often have heavy rain with HIGH winds. A good door seal will keep most water out, but any that blows past the seal is stopped by the step.

This is VERY common. Should keep water from coming in.

First, you don't really do anything. Your floor needs to end 'before' the drop....

There is one adjustment you should make. This changes the angles the tires hit the edging at. It can cause them to push the whole floor back. I'd start the edges 2-3" back.

I used the RaceDeck sloped edge pieces and they start where the floor lip rounds up to floor level. Makes a nice transition for the cars wheels. CJDave.

Ok , how do I handle this . I have a trench drain aprox 4 ft inside of garage doors it runs parallel with the doors. The floor sloops from both directions . If you put a straight edge over it there is about an inch gap . How would I deal with this using race deck or any ridged tile for that matter . Because of the short distance between the garage door and drain , I am thinking the tile will move every time I enter the garage if I use the tapered edging at the drain ?

I would start 2-3 inches inside the garage (if there is a lip) and 1/2" if there is no lip. I would use the ribbed tiles over the drain.

Do the floor just as you would if the drain wasn't there, except at the drain use a row of "Free Flow" tiles from Race Deck. They're flexible & will bend to fit the slope, & allow any spills, melt, drip, etc. to flow through to the drain.

So , after awhile will they have a permenant bend in them ? Great if so.

But what I thought would happen ,is when I drove over that low spot it would cause the end to lift and cause issues with the tile attached .

That's been one of the hold backs for me .

Without going into too much detail I had a problem with a builder & concrete sub so I ended up with a slope to the door of my shop & rounded shoulders where the slope met the floor. I ordered a couple of samples of Free Flow along with samples of diamond plate tiles. The Free Flow are pretty flexible, & after a short period conformed to the shoulders. They never lift, never detach, never cause any problem at all.

Lots of people do the entire floor in Free Flow, & it looks pretty good in pictures. I'm just not sure I'd want an entire floor with holes in it. The diamond plate pattern is easy to clean...........:dunno:

Can you rip down a couple pieces of freeflow tiles or some other support structure to level it out more and tile over that with freeflow?

Another lurker here finally posting, do you have any pictures or close ups of this detail? Curious to see how much of a slope over the lip it is.

Is RaceDeck the only one that offers this type of edge?

Try this arcticcougar. I don't know who, if anyone else, offers a tapered edge piece. CJDave.

The white is the bottom of the garage door with rubber seal, then the apron of the floor. The narrow strip is the rolled or curve "frost Lip" and then the tapered edge and then of course the FreeFlow. The rolled strip is about 1 1/2" wide. Works great for me. Her daily driver occupies one half of the garage and makes lots of trips in and out. The other half is seen in my avatar and sees limited trips in and out. Sorry about the picture orientation. Obviously needs 90* clockwise turn to be correct.
