There has been a lot of debate on the forums about the issues you mentioned. I know that the tiles will not melt or deform if you drop something hot on them. The biggest "potential" problem that I can see with the tiles are dropping small items in the grid. That could definitely be a PITA to try and retrieve. In my case, I will be doing little to no work in my garage so this was the perfect solution. However, there are plenty of guys here who do tons of work over these tiles without a problem. Don't rule it out just yet!
So this sample tile they sent me will not melt, if I am heating up a bolt and drop a glowing nut on it? Or if I cut a piece of angle stock and it falls to the floor red hot?
I am going to have to test this when it stops raining, Ill run over to my shop, heat up a piece of stock and touch the sample to it...
As far as dropping stuff, I dont make a habit out of it, lol but it happens often, especially since I started working with gloves recently. So having to just bend down and grab the fastener or walking to the lift to grab a magnet then pick it up, doesnt sound fun, If I do go this way I would go with the solid floor..
