racedeck installation Q

hi everyone,

new poster here just about to order up some racedeck and have a couple of questions for those that have installed it (i have been staring at the pics here, but still couldn't answer my own questions... =) ).

1) i haven't seen close ups, but do you leave the loops exposed on two sides or use edging to hide them and allow for that in your measurements?

2) for those of you with a garage that calls for cutting (ie one side of my garage is 11' wide, so i have to cut to allow for the 1/2 inch on each side), did you cut one side (loops side?) or did you cut both sides to have a more symetrical appearance?

3) how close up to the garage door do you get? does the door drop right before the edging? slightly on top of the edging?

On one side I have a full tile, with the edge the wall being the side without a loop. On the other I cut the tile to fit so the loops were gone.

Same answer as above. You could cut both sides so you are symetrical, but for me most of the edges can't be seen due to tool boxes, workbench etc being on the wall

3) how close up to the garage door do you get? does the door drop right before the edging? slightly on top of the edging? Check out the RD website. They have decent pictures/video on how much room to leave. I made mine so the door closes right on the outer edge of the edge tile

Try first centering the tiles in the garage door openings. I used the ramps they offer and have the door just touch the edge of that.

Given the gap needed for expansion, one side you will cut loops, the other side the fingers that engage the loops.

I didn't put mine together as I advised, I purchased the tiles to put under my Kista cabinets, they are located along the wall opposite the garage doors. I was lucky to find when I laid the rest of the tiles down they were centered, but I shudder to think how it would look if that didn't happen.

I just ordered my RD floor today, so its not in yet, but I know what I'm going to do. I plan to hold the flat side to the right and the front with the loops to the left and back of my garage. I am going to put one full tile 1/2" from the right wall and work left. I will have to cut about 3-4" from the loop side for the left wall. This will put my layout about 2" off center, but on my 3-car garage, it won't be noticed. I am doing it this way to minimize the cutting during the install and so I have more full tiles if/when I ever move and want to take it all with me. At the garage door, I have a 1" lip where the door goes down to the driveway. I plan to hold the edge pieces back 1/2" from the lip just so it won't creep over the edge when it heats up in the day with the door open.

It really would be a good idea for your comfort and to answer your questions if you requested a sample before you pull the trigger on an order. On the Racedeck.com website, fill out the form on the 'Contact Us' page. I filled it out and Kia called to tell me she sent a sample in the mail. Its amazing how quick they work at RD. This is the exact way I did mine.

It's important to note that when you do it this way, the transition pieces will have the loops facing the opposite direction than the rest of the tiles, but they will attach to the regular tiles next to the transitions and they will attach to each other -- so no worries. But if you don't expect this, like I didn't, it may throw you for a loop.

All of the advice in here is 100% right on. I did mine this exact way and love the finish and how it came out. I would recommend them 100x over.

i did receive a sample and could tell right away that the RD was heavier and thicker than it's sister tile, motofloor, the costco branded tile. i inherited some of these and put them into a carport (no cutting required!). after seeing all of the great garage layouts, i knew what i was going to "buy." lol.

i'll post some pics once i'm done.
