Jorgen, does the tiles actually expand as much as 1/2"? What does most do to hide the 1/2 gap around the perimeter...quarter rounds, etc???

1/2" is usually the max a large garage floor will expand. There are many factors such as temperature swings ( some areas in the country may have as much as 40-50 degree swings from day to night ), sun exposure when and if doors are left open all day, and the size of the garage. I have a 900 sg ft garage and I only have a 1/4" gap.
Most people either leave it as you would not even notice unless someone pointed it out and many also put om type of cove base molding around the garage....there are many types and most have at least 1/2" lip to cover the gap.

Jorgen, I live in TN and the weather here is moderately mild. My downstairs garage that I am installing the GarageTrac is only 250 sq ft. Based on your response, I wouldn't expect much if any expansion issues with this small area. I guess a 1/4" gap isn't bad, but I knew that I didn't want to leave a 1/2" gap. Do you concur?

I used 1/4" wood spacers on the three wall edges. After install complete I got some of the rubber baseboard material which has a 1/2" radius at the bottom which covers the gap perfectly.

When I installed my floor this spring (about 31 ft. across) I pulled the baseboard off the wall, laid the floor to within a quarter to one half inch of the walls, then reinstalled the baseboard to cover that gap.

I was prepared to install 1/2" quarter-round or base shoe molding over that, but it hasn't been necessary. The only way you can tell the floor expands is that with direct afternoon sun coming in the doors, the tiles will buckle slightly between two parked cars. But after the sun works its way a bit further in, it lies down again.

When I installed my RaceDeck Flooring this past April I left 1/2 inch around the walls. I live in Ohio and the temperature changes work out fine with the flooring. Prior to the install I painted the floor a couple of inches from the wall. Looks great and I love the floor. My neighbors think I'm nuts.

the race deck actually buckles? I am torn between epoxy and race deck and keep leaning more towards epoxy the more I learn. If you had to do it over would it be the same? Thanks

As with anything, if not installed correctly you will have issues...no matter what type of flooring Epoxy can blister, chip, and stain -VCT tile can 'pop' out and yes if you do not follow the easy to install instructions on modular flooring, it can buckle...though the good news is that is usually is a very quick fix with some trimming or placement adjustment. :)

JORGEN, I still have my RACE DECK in it's shipping boxes awaiting the completion of my new house. Would it be possible for me to obtain a "hard copy" of your new installation video? I am having the building contractor install the race deck and i must "educate" the work crew. Right now I cannot burn a copy on disk or bring my laptop to the job site. Your video is very instructive and should smooth out the job. Thanks.
