Jorgen,

What is the best way to determine what size I would need for a parking pad? I know my various cars' measurements, but I imagine there should be a little extra pad than just the exact footprint of the car. Is there a general rule of thumb?

Also, once I lay down the tiles, will they slide around as I drive on and off the pad with my vehicles, or will they stay in the original location? I prefer not to do wall-to-wall coverage at this time, but that is a concern I have about just using a pad.

Hi -
No road legal car or truck can be wider than 8' and most are around the 5-6 foot width. As for length 18' is safe but some of today's cars are much shorter and older cars like a Caddy , Impala etc are as long as 20+ feet. The most popular RaceDeck car pad is the 8'x18' .
As for sliding. That should not be an issue for most all installations as RaceDeck has legs underneath that will grab. However super smooth , high-gloss floors may allow the floor to shift on occasion, but a we have a solution for these types of installations as well if it applies to you. For a patio, I would recommend the Deck Tile, it is by far the most popular option for patios. The FreeFlow will work but the open area is a bit larger, you could get a free sample of each
