Howdy. Great board and great community. I've been lurking for some time but just joined a little while ago. Got the keys to my new home yesterday. I'm upgrading from a 2 car garage to a 3 car garage and I have decided to go with RaceDeck FreeFlow in 100% of the garage. Footprint is 28' X 19' 10"....approximately 555 sq feet. One two car door and one single car door.....but all one big garage. Ceiling is about 12ft.

So, the very back of my garage has a ledge that is 3' 3". This works out great because I can use either 2 of the 18" tiles with a edge piece (3" is what RD says) OR I can use 3 of the 12" tiles with an edge piece..

My potenital issue is with the larger area of the garage floor that is 16' 7" in width. If I go with the 18" tile, it should work out alright. I'll only need to cut 2" off the back row to make room for the 3" edging piece. HOWEVER, if I wanted to go with the 12" tile, I'd either have 4" of garage floor showing at the front by the doors or I'd have to butcher 28 tiles for only 4" of material (waste and expensive)

Long story short, for those who have used the RaceDeck, is there any advantage to the 12" tile over the 18" tile? A lot has to do with the design I know, but I'm going to go with somethink like Chad did, but instead of the Red, go with Alloy (similar or exactly as Dubber).

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Josh

Sounds as if either approach would be ok. The 4" of floor showing at the front would not bother me a bit, but for some more **** types it would be an issue. My own floor is covered with Freeflow. I did not put edging at the sides and back. I had to cut off maybe 2" at one wall and at the back, just did a careful, clean job and I have never noticed the lack of edging. But I see your point if you would need to cut off all but a few inches and waste the rest of a bunch of tiles; then, edging would do the trick.

Eye of the beholder....

Sounds like you have thought this out well. It does kind **** to cut a bunch of tiles but i had to do that in my current double garage. Now that i think about it i cut more than 28 tiles. If you went the 12" tile route, I assume your calculating the 3" transition piece for the front and the 3/4" spacing from the wall at the back?

Although I don't have Race Deck tiles I run into the same type of problem I had to butcher a lot of tiles just to fill in a 4" black strip around the outside.

Thanks for the info guys. Appreciate the feedback. Does anyone have the 18" tile and if you had to do it over again, would you go with the 12"?

One row of edging will "finish" the ledge in the back. The second row of edging will be at the front of the garage.

I'm thinking I'll go with the 18" tile all around. The lady at RaceDeck said the 18" tile had a slightly "duller" appearance while the 12" tile was "shinier." I got samples of the 18" tile and they look great to me so I dont think this will matter.

Biggest benefit to the 12" tile as I see it is that the black border I am doing would be smaller and there would be more square footage of the grey tile.

I submitted my design and am anxiously awaiting my quote from RaceDeck. With any luck I'll have it in a week or two. I'll try to take a bunch of before and after pictures. You guys have some outstanding ideas and I would love for this garage to be my cave, my place to relax. We have a ton of **** though....need to do some purging.

I am allowed to have a small shed in the back yard......need to get one of those to store all the yard equipment and misc.

Thanks again guys!
