Racedeck Questions

So I am researching how to do my main garage floor, and Racedeck is my current favorite. Two questions:

1. Do you paint the concrete floor around the edges, to keep the old floor invisible in the space between the new floor and the walls?

2. Can the edge (transition) tiles be attached to another tile that has been trimmed? In other words, if I trim a standard tile, can I still attach a transition tile on that same edge?

I ran my tiles pretty much to the wall. My garage does not get much sun or anything so I do not fear the expansion of the tiles.

The Edge pieces connect to the Male or Female connectors "depending on which edge you buy" on the tile. So if you cut off those pieces then no you would not be able to attach it to that.

I second this. Also, we're in summer now, if you get the tiles in the garage let them sit for a few days (expand/contract as necessary) you should be able to get away with minimal distance between the tiles and the edges of your garage. Certainly there shouldn't be enough space between to consider painting . I would advise if you wait until the winter though to install, make sure you leave some space to expand. Also the tiles are super easy to cut.

Keep the expansion gap, even in summer. We ran rubber base to hide ours. You can do wood base as well.

I left about a half inch all the way around and the put a composite molding over the top that hides the gap in most places. Funny there was an old garage show on tv today, which I had seen before, featuring Racedeck.

I painted about an inch of the actual floor black along with the stem wall to transition the black floor tiles to the wall. Did this same thing in two garages now.

They say details make all the difference, so I could definitely see dubber doing that. Go check out his two garages if you haven't already.

Plus, for a little paint purchase and quick work, you would avoid purchasing, painting (if not the somewhat pricey rubber base above), and installing lots of base. Either way, you get to make the call!

I took dubber's advice and painted a black border along the edges. It looks better already.

Racedeck diamond in black, red, and alloy ordered today with help of Shauna of Racedeck. I counted the tiles in my design about ten times...maybe I got it right. Will be black and alloy in large checkerboard pattern with red border. Will post pix in new thread.

I'll just add that I did also paint the floor and the foundation in my last garage and it really did make a nice difference. I use a Sherwin Williams Concrete Stain I was able to find a color pretty close to the graphite color of the tiles. I believe they could also tint to match other colors if necessary. Definitely worth it!

Quick question. I had a full RaceDeck garage in a prior house and loved it, all except for the "clattering " when walking on it. Can I put some kind of underlayment down below the tiles to keep it quiet? Closing on a new 3-car garage/house in 30 days, and there's some more Racedeck in my future. Thanks!
