RaceDeck sales and installation question

I am a new member and want to thank the folks that post in this forum for sharing their experiences.

I am going to either apply 100% solids epoxy or modular tiles to my 3-stall 1200 square foot garage. I am leaning towards installing RaceDeck Free Flow tiles. I moved everything out of the garage prior to painting the walls, so fixing up the floor now would be ideal but I can wait if I can time my purchase with product sales.

I have read some posts here referencing RaceDeck sales. When do these tiles typically go on sale and how are the sales announced/communicated?

Installing the Free Flow tiles appears to pretty simple but I do have a question. Other than leaving the half inch gaps for expansion are there any special considerations I need to be aware of if I install the tiles in cool to cold temperatures?

Can't help with sale timing, but the vendors here give a discount to members. They will also send samples, so get samples of Free Flow & solid tiles. Comparison is good.

My floors worked best installing from the garage door to the back of the garage. On the first one I went "manly" & ordered the "male" edge trim. I had to lift *every* tile to get the male/female sides to mate. Not difficult, but not bright. On the second garage I got a little smarter & ordered the "female" edge trim. Looks the same, but you just drop & snap the rest of the tiles. Easier & quicker...... Either way 450 sq. ft. went in in less than a half day. The rest of the time was cutting/fitting for the expansion gap & around immovable objects.

Expansion with the Free-Flow tiles is not much of an issue, so you should be fine installing in cooler to cold weather as long as you honor the gaps as you stated.

RaceDeck always has an 8 hour Black Friday sale the day after Thanksgiving that is their lowest price of the year. Plus, they will give you an additional discount for being a GJ member. I would suggest ordering some free samples if you like to get your color combo decided and then play with their online floor designer to figure out exactly what you need in both color and quantity.

When the sale comes, just give them a call with what you need, tell them you are a GJ member and you will be done in 10 minutes and your tiles will be on your doorstep in about a week.

Jorgen, thank you for responding to my post. I have recently spent a significant amount of time on your website and I should receive the samples Shauna sent to me tomorrow. As I stated previously, I am leaning towards the Free-Flow tiles. I just need to finalize the color selection and hopefully time my purchase to take advantage of any promotions and sales. I did not see anything on the website about your Sema Show related promotions (timing, products included or prices). Would you please help me understand how your promotions and/or sales are communicated?

Basically leave the tile in the sun (assuming you can find some ) and leave the full 1/2"

I find the locks to be tougher to engage in cold weather

Good question and post.

I’ve been leaning also towards Free Flow, I just don’t know about the dirt accumulation. Although they’re perfect for winter conditions, I would hate for the dirt to accumulate over time and then shopvac it ever so often.

Although, I would have to be sweeping every other day with the diamond tile.

Not sure what my tie breaker would be here in this scenario.

IMHO go free flow. I had them in my last house for many years. Never needed to remove to clean and was 100% satisfied. Moved this year and decided to go with epoxy. Looked great but pulling in wet cars which happens all the time in Houston made a real mess. I kept the epoxy on the raised areas and put down Racedeck's new XLC tiles on the parking area. Back to being happy with a floor that allows water to drain and does not require regular cleaning. They are tough. The only thing I wouldn't do is weld on it.

On installation the RD video shows using your feet to lock in place. I value my knees so used a large rubber mallet instead.

I laid Free Flow in my 500 sf garage 5 years ago. I have zero regrets considering the slush, crude and such that her daily driver drags into the garage. Easy to clean when needed, typically in the Spring to get rid of the winter crud, using a long handled brush or broom and some car wash solution. The water drains under the tile and follows the slope of the floor to the overhead door and out under the door. If I had the project to do all over I can't imagine what I would change. Good luck. Hey Mr. Jorgen,

I got those tiles and got them installed. I dunno but I couldn’t get them to go in as easy as stepping on them. I have to bang a lot of them with a rubber mallet for the teeth to click into the loop on the other tile.

However, got it all together now. I’m attaching a few pics.

From your picture it looks like two things are happening.
The Underlayment is bunching up and will not allow the floor to self square. and the the other is, we recommend that you install by starting with a large "L" and then fill in so the floor squares itself ( and also nothing should be on the floor while snapping together)
