Racedeck spacing question

I'm looking at getting Racedeck Freeflow in my 18' 5" x 18' 5" garage. Love how it looks. As everyone knows, the tiles are 12" x 12". My question is how to handle the 5 inch extra width. I realize that Racedeck recommends a 1/2 inch gap against the walls, so that leaves a 4" remainder.

What should I do with that four inches? Trim pieces are 3 inches wide, so I can't fit one on both sides. Overall I'd like the pattern to be even, so am I forced to have a 2 inch sliver on both sides? I'm curious how people have handled similar situations in the past.

Sorry if this seems overly OCD, but I just want it to look as good as possible.

You just have to cut the tiles. To do it right, you would cut pieces for both sides so the pattern stays centered.

Yep, I get that. Just not crazy about the idea. Was hoping there was a better way. That's a heck of a lot of scrap.

Its no different than doing a floor in ceramic tile. If you manage the cuts right you can use 1 row of tiles to do the fill on both sides.

I did mine the "wrong" way and put all of my cuts on one side. On that side of the garage, the wall is completely lined with toolbox/shelves/cabinet/workbench, so you can't see that the border is a little narrower. I did a simple pattern with a black border and graphite center.

That minimized the waste and the number of cuts I had to make.

As long as you are on opposite sides of the garage. you can use opposite sides of the tile, so if you need 4" on both sides, you will waste 4" of tile if you do it right.

You can'e use both halves of a cut tile in the same row because of the interlock though.

Go to the Racedeck website and there is a designer and you can get a quote.

The tiles interlock and just lay on the floor.

My garage is 19 ft 8 inches square. I was thinking about getting 20x19 for tiles and then moving the trimmings to the adjacent wall to backfill, adding a lip at the front. Anyone else have experience like this? With the 3 inch lip I would have to remove 7 inches of the tile from the rear wall and put it along one of the sides to bring it out to 19'7". Make sense?

How do you guys do it around the garage door? Just lay up to the edge of the door? Also how do they hold up to jack stands? I learned the hard way to use 2x8 or so under jack stands on ashphalt.

At the garage door I have a step in the concrete, about 3/4" tall. I started at the step with the Racedeck edging and just worked in from there.

most installations end up with the ramp edge coming right up to the rubber strip on the garage door. Another clean install tip is to cut off the bottom 1/2" of your garage door rail and have the RaceDeck slide under..( the wheels from the garage door are far above this.

I did all my cuts along the back wall and the one on the right side of the garage entrance. Also notched my threshold piece at the door rails. Threshold ends right at the door.
