Racedeck Tuffshield Pictures/Opinions

Hello,

I've been admiring the many great Racedeck floors that have been installed and shared here on Garage Journal.

I don't see many Tuffshield installations.

The Tuffshield is appealing to me because I like the extra shine that makes it seem like epoxy and it will help light up my small garage (due to the reflections).

Can anyone share their opinions of the product and any pictures of their Tuffshild installation, please?

I had RD send me a sample Tuffshield blue tile and i bought a sample Tuffshield carbon fiber tile from Bigfloors.

I am totally impressed with this product - If I had more of a 'showroom' garage I would hands down buy Tuffshield. Its totally high gloss and fits like a glove with a REAL tight seam between Tuffshield AND non-Tuffshield Racedeck Diamond tiles.

BTW, although Diamond and Circletrac fit well and are 'compatible', the seam on the Diamond tiles look just a little tighter...on my samples at least.

My garage is general purpose, with lawn mower, 2 small SUVs, gardening, as well as some Gladiator garage shelves and workbench, and baby strollers...get where Im going?

So I will probably go with regular race deck flooring. It will just look a little funny with a shiny showroom floor.

You cant go wrong with buying a sample tile from Big Floors to see what youre getting into....

I have a small garage and am anxious to see how they'll look.

Yeah, tell us what you think; Racedeck seems like cool stuff; I have a design in mind from the design section on their website - however too many other projects to work on right now before I take the plunge!

Whenever that time comes I wonder if I will still be interested...always dreaming about the garage floor though and reading these posts...

I received two sample tiles: a black tile and a white tile.

Racedeck shipped them very promptly and they were well packaged with some additional literature about their other products.

My first impression was that they look great. I wanted something shiny to make my small one car garage a little brighter. These do that very well, looking like a highly polished VCT floor.

They snapped together well with no gap issues. I can't comment on the tightness of the gap versus other products, but I see no issues.

The one question I have has to do with the coating process that produces the gloss. The black tile has an imperfection; it appears as if the gloss is a laminate and there's a bubble under one very small spot. I tried to scrape it off, but it seems fully adhered to the tile. How is the gloss "made" on these tiles?

I think the tiles themselves look very nice. This style is not at the top of my list--but I do want to find out about the process that creates the gloss.

TuffShield is manufactured using a patent process. It is not a coating, paint, or film that is applied to the tile. It is an in-mold technology where it is molded into the tile all in one step. This makes for a very durable high-gloss finish. The one imperfection you see should not have made it past QC? , so thank you for the heads up... I now have this on top of the list in our weekly mfg meeting.

Auto correct is not always a good thing; I meant to say that this style is NOW at the top of my list.

The epoxy look in a tile is very appealing.

Since I can't get a picture up to share, the spot is about the size of a pinky fingernail. I was able to scratch it and get a little flex out of it, again, like a bubble of plastic or a blister. I was not able to scape it off or get any portion of it to come off. There is no evidence of any other issues elsewhere on this tile or on the other sample. (This blister is on a black tile.)

I just wanted to share since you said you'll be bringing this up to your team.
