RaceDeck vs Motofloor

I've been lurking and learning here for almost a year now, even while I was in Baghdad last year, trying to decide on a floor for my home garage. This is a great forum and I appreciate everyone's experience, insight and opinions.

I do my own car work and eventually intend to install a lift in one of my three bays. I have moisture issues, so I've narrowed it down to plastic tile.

I have searched and read most of the threads on the issue, but my question comes down to this: Is RaceDeck worth 28% more over MotoFloor?

Motofloor is now on sale for $89.99/box of 48, and I have a quote from RaceDeck - with shipping, tax (on Costco), etc, it comes down to +28%. I have over 1000sf to cover, so it's not chump change, but if I'm already spending the bucks, another 28% isn't that much more in the big scheme of things.

Is it worth it? Those of you who have seen both of them/i.e. held them in your hand and inspected them, what do you think?

Hey Gearge,

I have samples of each tile and I can say that the RaceDeck tile is much thicker and heavier duty than the Motofloor. I think this would come into play over time and the RaceDeck would hold-up longer. I have chosen the RaceDeck for my garage when the money comes available.

After more research and discussion, I just bit the bullet and placed my RaceDeck order. The salesrep was very helpful with my oft-changing designs, producing an estimate for each iteration and also providing design and color advice.

The pallet (over 1000sf) should arrive next week. I'll post pics when I'm done.

Via R&L Carriers. The guy drove a ~26' Uhaul style truck with a hydraulic ramp and wheeled the pallet with manual forklift/pallet jack right into the garage. No fuss no muss.

Now I just have to install it... all 1050sqft. Woohoo!!

I have a few tiles yet to lay down around my HVAC and plumbing mechanicals, but here's a quick shot of the final product (the floor, that is... much still to do with the rest of the garage, i.e. cabinets and all the gas and beer signs on the walls - I'll post those later).

The install took about 2.5 days for my Dad and I to complete. As you can see, it's a 2+1 bay garage and is about 850sqft total. Since the bays connect between the partial walls (the single bay is a recent addition), the install was a bit more complicated.

I found RaceDeck itself to be a cake to install, it's the cutting that takes a while, and we had plenty of it. Just like any other tile install, if your walls aren't square, you'll have to custom cut each edge tile. I had only two wall sections for which I could mass cut the tiles, the rest required custom cuts. Also, since some walls weren't square and my two bays connect, the actual position of the floor is a compromise with respect to the straight line at the garage door entrances. If I made one bay straight, the other went way crooked. So, we shifted it a bit so that neither is way out of whack. We made it less obvious by painting the threshhold of each bay with color matched masonry paint, which does the job well. We also painted the perimeter edges where the "1/2 inch minimum gap" at each edge is to make things look nice. I also filled this gap at critical places (like the walk-in door) with 3/4" foam backer rod, which just happens to almost match the graphite tiles.

I learned a few tricks as I went along, which I will pass to the Snaplock folks for suggested inclusion in the installation tips. Phatsub, let me know when you're about to start and maybe we can chat on the phone about what I learned. I assume some folks have already posted this type of info... maybe not?

Anyway, we're very happy with the results.

SLICK- We have an aluminum diamond plate topped floor but it does get a bit pricey for an entire garage..great for accents though http://www.racedeck.com/pro.html

I was going to get a few Accupark tiles, but didn't want the non-matching aluminum plate. Any pans to make it in colors so that it blends in with the pattern?

Yes we will have numerous colors coming in all of our Aluminum Tread Plate products ( Accupark and RaceDeck Pro ), we are about a month or so out. Also we are going to launch a new RaceDeck tile that is much different than anything we have or that is currently in the marketplace....I will announce it here the day it is ready, just a few weeks out.

I just read a comment from someone who used SwissTrax for their new garage floor. Is Race Deck and SwissTrax the same stuff? I'm thinking about interlocking floor tiles for a do-it-myself garage and patio remodel. I heard SwissTrax is made from the same plastic used for car bumpers. Is that true?

I've had Racedeck down for about 3 years now. Great product. I particularly like how you can see what the finished install will look like using the planner before you ever buy the product. I find it's a very strong material as well. I have a lift sitting directly on top of mine; no hold down bolts used. The only issue with this type material is you need to have jack stands with flat plates on the legs, or else buy some metal sheets to place under them if they have points; otherwise they puncture the tiles.

This photo was just after install. Still looks great but shows some wear, like it should.

Quick question for the floors with the textures, round dots or whatever, how does it feel on the bare feet? Also is it harder to slide things around with the textures?

I have the Cirle trac and on bare feet it feels fine. As for sliding things around, it seems to be only slightly slicker than concrete. My ramps surprisingly stay put while driving the cars onto them.

if you are looking for a basement flooring, we have an entire line for 'around the house' . We have SnapCarpet, which is the same system as RaceDeck but with carpet on the top, ideal for basements where moisture will not effect. We also have a complete line of epoxy laminate surfaces. Or if you are just looking for a cool looking basement flooring, the RaceDeck CircleTrac will work great.

On the topic of Racedeck vs. Costco's Motofloor, has anyone tried using both together? If you have a side by side row or tiles of one kind connected to the other kind, how much height difference is there and is it too noticeable to even try to get away with it?

There is a slight difference in height and lock tolerances, though it will work. What is it you are trying to do?
