For the past few years, I've been pretty happy with my little aluminum Harbor Freight floor jack. You know the one:

At race events, I've really found myself wishing I had more height though. I'm really looking for the ideal solution: Something low-profile enough to fit under a race car (I think my Miata has 4" of ground clearance at the pinch weld) but tall enough that it can get the car up to a comfortable 24" off the floor for longer service at home.

I've been looking at another HF jack, but it's all steel and is quite a bit heavier than I want to have to bring to/fro on my little race trailer. Aluminum is definitely ideal, and it doesn't even need to be a 1-ton jack (none of my vehicles weigh over a ton, and I can't really lift the entire car on one jacking point).

Alternatively, I could probably cut new sides for the jack I already have. I'm not sure if the hydraulics of that little 1.5ton jack are quite strong enough for additional leverage, and it's a fair amount of extra work. Still, it's on the table as a last-ditch option.
