I'm looking for some ideas for a formula 1 themed garage. I had seen one where somebody did the f1 logo & now can't find it. But any racing theme would be helpful....

This made me think of something I saw many moons ago-
The "piece de resistance"...
...wall mounted F1 car.
(the last photo is an Indy car that a driver had driven- had it "mounted" in his personal home.

I think it would be cool to find a nose cone with a spoiler attached to it and mount that to the wall so it looked like it was protruding from the wall. An actual F1 nose cone would be crazy expensive but there are a lot of formula racing series you could get one from. Formula ford, formula scca, etc. Most people wouldn't know the difference.

Back in the mid/late 80's one of my customers (I sold office furniture) was Williams Race Engineering, aka the Williams F1 team, in Didcot. I had a guided tour of the factory and the workshop was nothing fancy, plain but almost surgically clean. Grey painted floor and white walls from memory, also very well lit. I'm sure things may have changed as the amount of money in F1 has increased stratospherically since then. The car park was full of well looked after but mostly older cars, however, when they started up at the end of the day you could tell they were owned by race car engineers! All the drawing boards (and they had ones that were big enough for a full size side on drawing) in the drawing office had roller blinds on so they could cover them up when people like me came in. This was largely pre-CAD so much of the drawing was still done by hand.

It wouldn't be too hard to build one out of fibreglass....that's what they were originally.
Using a carved foam buck it wouldn't cost too much either...just a bit of time.

Just some general rambling......

#1-Slick

#2-Clean

#3-Colour cordinated

#4-Traveling circus

Slick,in the sense that sheet metal or plastic IS over wood or masonary.Slick floors ****,so be careful there. And also "slick" in the slang way the word gets used(panache)....which in F1 world is an ongoing, changing look.So what you'd build representing current trends "could" look dated in a few years.

Clean, obviously sanitary....but more important is clean in that theres not any exposed fasteners and support systems are hidden.Think a commercial welding curtain.....that ain't clean because you see the frame and wheels.Clean would be a sheet metal welding cell with panels "broke" to turn flanges away from view......clean like a spraybooth in the design side of it.

Colour...pretty much says it all.Think sports uniforms....their colours are chosen from spectrum to create confusion and have other team's focus on them.In F1 world its all about money and sponsers. So professional graphics with team colours....but they're done in a harmonius way that screams,"cool chit".With major benny's from the engineering side of how lite reflects, creating a professional work environ.

Lastly these traveling events require really quick set-up and knock-downs.Don't know what that has to do with permanant digs....but it does explain that little "look" that you see in glimpses of their event setups.

Everybody's different in their likes/dislikes.......I'm trying to get a 100 yo sheet metal shop look. But certainly appreciate the F1 look.BW

And having one assaulted by a Mclaren. Did you see Massa come up to Hamilton when he was being interviewed post race and give him a good slap on the arm and make some really sarcastic remarks, I thought Hamilton was gonna punch him.

hamilton is a big baby. i heard his newest rant was complaining that the british national anthem is to short. so when he's on podium doesn't get as much time as everyone else?
WTF? what a bleeping whiner!!!! get on the podium more often... *****!!!! thats how you fix that. Vettel isn't complaining about podium time...

One thing I have noticed with race shops is that they focus around each individual car.
