Hyloft is a reputable overhead storage product brand. Plus they have different tiers, starting at $65 or so for low/medium duty units.

Hyloft may be more popular than Racor due to the lower cost, so there should be plenty of reviews available. Any problems should be found with a quick google, and I anticipate that there might also be flaw-correcting mods described online as well.

Decent. For smooth operation need to be distribute weight evenly. The ability to attach your drill to the pole will save your arms. Lowers 92" not 96"

I once had a camper-shell lift that was just a bigger version of this.
Like btgd said, a power tool to spin the crank is a must.

I have that same lift. Works great. I don't have near 250 lbs. on it, but it work well. The pieces seem well built and the cables are pretty thick.

The main trouble i had when putting the lift up was leveling the platform. It could have to do with how I have it loaded as well.

I don't have one personally, but I was recently in a house that had one of these and the owner used it to store his friggin' snowblower.

I could see storing some Rubbermaid totes or boxes of Christmas lights etc, but a snowblower? Needless to say since I had no idea how well it was mounted I wasn't even going to attempt to walk underneath that thing.

The fact is most roof trusses aren't designed to carry a significant amount of weight aside from the root itself, so adding a couple of these mid span and packing them full of a few hundred pounds each might not be the best idea unless you don't mind a slight bow in your ceiling.
