Great job on the engine Rick! I did mine a couple of weeks ago and I'm always feeling a bit uneasy about hosing down the engine bay.

I'll always feel nervous since I used to always get stranded at the wand wash when I was younger. The newer cars seem much more resistant to water in the engine compartment.

That is one clean engine bay! Do you even drive that thing!

Thanks. I'm a complete amateur, but I'm starting to get the hang of my Canon EOS 7D. For lens: Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM (I copied and pasted that directly from the camera info on my Flickr page)

Wow!! The engine bay really looks good..and I still get a kick out of how you did the garage door opening at the beginning of the video, and then at the end. Looks like you got one of your little ones to help with the work. Very cool.

Quick question.. do you use any kind of plastic dressing under the hood or in the interior? I have moved away from using anything like that long ago. The dressing just seems to attract more dust/dirt. I will put some tire dressing on if I'm going to like a car get together or something, but that's about it.

Budo, thanks for the compliment. I didn't use any dressing this time 'round. I'm moving away from those dressing sprays for the exact reason you mentioned. It irks me to see dust and debris embedded in the greasy coating. I just use 1Z Einszett's Plastic Deep Cleaner and it looks as good, if not better, than any dressing. All that said, if I am doing a car for a friend, and I don't have the time or patience to do a thorough job, I'll cheat and spray some Chemical Guys or Griot's Garage Engine Dressing on there.

Can you tell me what shelves and rods were used for the cleaning supplies. Looks like ikea maybe? Did you just attach a board to the studs then attach shelves to the board. Loving the tile backsplash! Awesome garage

Yup, shelves are EKBY and rods are part of the Grundtal line. I go into more detail on my "organization" page of my website. You can find direct links there. They have been great.

Yes, I nailed and glued some 6" strips of wood to serve as mounts for the various hardware.

We are all hoping that you have strong skills in the art of influencing your wife. If it comes down to price and or the two door argument i think you should compromise, with an S3!

You know what? I purchased a whack of the Finest IV's, but I ended up sticking with the tried, tested, and true originals. Plus, the Finest IV's didn't sit nicely on my storage bar. That said, they do have a more comfortable trigger action than the original. Oh and another thing, I don't like the way dirt becomes lodged in the stylish "fins" they added on the Finest IV's. The originals are much easier to keep clean.

I have been sealing my exposed aggregate driveway every couple of years, but this is the first time I did the garage pad. Don't ask me why I haven't done this prior. My only answer is that I have the RaceDeck floor so didn't feel the need, but I think this will help protect the floor from the damaging road salt my city is addicted to, and it should make clean up a bit easier. The sealer I went with is pretty slick, but I don't care since the RD floor will rest atop of it. Here's some pics of the finished project:

I like it. Is this basically a sealer? Regarding your ag driveway, does it get slippery?

Yes, it is a very effective concrete sealant with a high gloss shine. Everyone around here uses it on their aggregate driveways. I have never had any concerns regarding it making the driveway slippery. I think, by nature of the texture of the driveway, it isn't an issue.

You sealing your floor is what planted the seed in my head. Any extra protection from the corrosive road salt is worth it, imho. So, thanks for that.

Where did you pick up the sealer? Also, do you have any info on your install?

This particular sealer is called North High Gloss and it comes from a firm called Northland Construction Supplies located in NE Calgary. They are just a concrete flooring specialist, I'm sure there are plenty of retailers in every city that sell a similar array of floor sealants.

This stuff went on with a paint roller and it was incredibly quick and painless. Next time I apply, I'll be sure to be a bit more even with my roller strokes, but it came out great. The stuff pretty much hardens on contact so how it goes on is pretty much how it will set. Very easy DIY project. Just have to make sure the floor is as clean and dry as possible.

I'm about 24 x 24 with my additional bump out. I picked up the 19 L bucket of the North High Gloss which is enough to cover my garage floor and driveway. It was about $140. (SKU# 04-2021) All you need is a few paint rollers and pan and you just paint the surface of your driveway with even strokes, doing your best to apply a consistent thickness of coat. The first time I did the driveway, the first stroke was thicker and when it dried, you could kind of tell. The garage floor was much more forgiving.

I would speak to the guys at Northlands and let them know what specific type of concrete driveway you have because the North High Gloss doesn't look that good on swept concrete. Our neighbourhood has exposed aggregate driveways but swept concrete sidewalks (on only one side of the street) and my neighbour thought he may as well seal the sidewalk and it looks weird. I know they carry other sealers that may be more suitable. If your driveway is exposed aggregate the North High Gloss is the perfect product.

Helped a friend out this weekend. He noticed all these yellow blemishes in his white paint, so I used a iron spray and clay bar to remove them all. The Iron-X was successful in removing 80% of them, and the clay took care of the rest. This video tells the story as well as shows a bit of how I use the garage and keep my things organized.

Yeah, he is a professional photographer, so I negotiated a trade. I restore his paint, he does a professional "shoot" of my garage. Should have some photos to share in a few weeks, once we can work out a time.

Yeah, it's mainly comprised of brake dust. Not sure what else it could be.

I am in Calgary as well and use the North High Gloss on my exposed aggregate driveway and patio. I can't pull precise square footages out of the air, but a 5 gal pail of it is enough to do my driveway and patio with a liter or two left over.

Durability on the driveway is good - I tend to do mine every 2nd year.

I seem to recall last pail I purchased ( a couple of years ago) was $120 or so. (sorry - didn't see Rick's follow-up - $140 sounds about right these days)

Application - I just use a paint roller on a pole, and a long knap roller.

Off the top of my head, I don't know of any Calgary GJ members who have tiled their floor. I know BMWRider was considering doing a portion of his floor in tile, but I'm not sure if he ever did. Might be worth shooting him a message.
