Hi everyone,
I thought I would introduce myself and post some photos of my garage. My name is Rick and I am an elementary school teacher from Calgary, Canada. My wife and I have been living in our new build for over a year and the garage is my pride and joy. It's a work in progress, but I'm pretty close to wrapping up all the major stuff. It's a standard builder's size garage with a 4' extension. Here she is in her early stages:

Great looking garage. Is the floor RaceDeck? How do you get the checkered look with all black tiles?

Very nice hangout indeed. On the wall you have a, what looks like a place to clip floor mats, as seen in image IMG_5596.jpg. Do you high pressure wash your vehicles inside the garage, and if so, do you have a floor drain?

Re: Rick's Double Garage in Calgary, CAN

Thanks for the comments, guys. Yes, the floor is RaceDeck. It's the Free Flow tile pattern. I believe it is the same style as Barrett-Jackson uses in the staging lanes at WestWorld. Each sqaure foot comes with the opposing 6"x6" staggered pattern. (Hope that makes sense) It does a fantastic job of trapping and keeping the winter guck. Yes, I do a bit of high pressure washing in my garage, but I don't usually use a lot of water. No floor drain. The RaceDeck floor does a good job of trapping the water and soap so I don't have much (if any) seepage out the front.

Thanks. I'm in the process of adding updated photos, but I'm having a few technical difficulties.

Great looking garage and great use of the space that you have!

How is the humidity in there after spraying water?

That is a stunning design. You should start a part time business in garage remodelling. I wish mine looked that nice!

Jumping over here from your comments on my thread. Our garage layout is very similar as you mentioned - although I do like your staircase better than mine. Due to the curved nature of mine - I have nearly killed myself a few times stepping past more than one step @ a time. Who was your home builder? Mine was Morrison homes - all in all a decent experience with a couple exceptions... :)

Excellent work!

Love the look of the racedeck. Did you have the builder rough-in (& install) your infrared heater? As I mentioned, that was a bit of an oversight on my part - although maybe something to consider for the future. How much do those units go for? Although my wife has been supportive (& very much hands on) in finishing our garage, some things may soon be veto'd soon - I'm sure. <insert sadface here>

It looks like you're stocked up to do some detailing - I'll drop off the Bimmer for you next time I get caught in a rainstorm! ;)

Nice effort!

If I didn't have these power tools in the way, mine might (might..) look similar...

Ok. Maybe not.

Nice work Rick - from a fellow Calgarian.
Thanks very much. It only makes sense for us Calgarians to be garage-obsessed seeing as how vital they are to our survival as a race!

How is the humidity in there after spraying water?
I don't do that much power washing in there. I have the mat wall more for drip drying things I rinse out on the driveway in the warmer months. I'll bucket wash occasionally and do a light rinse with my Karcher, but I have to ensure the soapy water doesn't leave the garage due to bylaws. My RaceDeck flooring tiles do a good job of making sure the water stays put, and the warm floor ensures quick evaporation. I'll give the entire garage a good rinsing out once a month, or so. To make a long answer longer, I don't do enough spraying for humidity to be an issue.

That is a stunning design. You should start a part time business in garage remodelling. I wish mine looked that nice!
I appreciate the comment. I have been the brunt of many jokes at work and around the neighborhood, but I just love putting the custom touches on the place. I have to be careful not to good overboard, though. I've "consulted" on a few friends' garages, but I'm far from making it a career!

How did you get the walls of your igloo so smooth?
Says the guy from Regina!

It looks like you're stocked up to do some detailing - I'll drop off the Bimmer for you next time I get caught in a rainstorm!
Bring it!

Thanks to everyone who posted comments. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. I can't believe a guy with a Vector complimented me! That's insane...

Posting some new photos. Since joining this site, I had to do a few changes. I think I may have figured out how to post higher quality imaged. Here goes:

The door is 8" and it is all wood. The front is done in cedar, the base is some sort of high-density particle board. It's heavy as hell. I had to have them come out and reinforce the rails since they were buckling under the weight of the door. Glad I caught the problem before something catastrophic happened. So far, the cedar is aging well.

I know. Since I made my intial order a year ago, they seem to have dropped the 5 drawer attachable cabinet. On the Sears.ca site they have the 6' bench listed twice, one for $299 and the other for $339. Same bench! I would just give them a call as they seem to have let their website slide imho. I have been very pleased with the performance of the Craftsman MD pieces, though.

Thanks again for the compliments!

VERY NICE!

That 4' extension made it all possible for sure.

I see you use Auto Obsessed as well!

Looks like a great place to spend time in during your cold winters. Perfect pictures of the progress and how you have it all organized. Very nice and I will bet you have the best garage space in the neighborhood.

Ody.

They are awesome. I used to try to source all my products from the various retailers in the States, then I discovered Auto Obsessed and I get EVERYTHING in the same place and free shipping! Dream come true.

I would like to think so. Although, I'm sure the entrie neighborhood thinks I'm a bit crazy since I do spend a lot of time standing in there staring at the walls. What they don't know is I'm busy trying to think of ways to improve the layout and design.

What is the stainless steel structure on the wall under the KIA sign? (IMG 5774)

Sorry if I missed it in the thread.

Re: Rick's Double Garage in Calgary, CAN

It's a 8' x 5' 2-piece aluminum sheet that I use to keep water from penetrating the drywall while washing car mats and other various things. Lately it's been more of a baby's highchair cleaning station! I have a waterproof cover for the power outlet that I slap on there when using the "mat station". Truth be told, I usually power wash the mats on the driveway and hang them to dry. I don't like the water spraying everywhere inside the garage. Thanks for the question.

Yeah same here. I accidentally stumbled upon then a few months ago.

Free shipping to Ontario too with bigger purchases, so I save up stuff to buy :)

Rick - Really like the Race Deck pattern you've got, are the tiles in the center Graphite and the ones around the outside black?

Re: Rick's Double Garage in Calgary, CAN

Thanks. Yes, the inside is graphite and the perimeter is black. I modeled it after the scheme they use in the Barrett Jackson staging lanes. I play with the idea of picking up alloy to replace the red, but I've grown quite accumstomed to the red. At times, I think the alloy (silver) would tone down the overall "bamm!" effect the red creates. At $3-4/tile it may be an option to have all kinds of different accent colors to mix and match!

Some photos of the latest changes to occur. I'm a teacher so I have A LOT of time to tinker in there.

The biggest change occured on the house-wall. I did some painting, re-routed some electrical, and mounted a 32" flat screen. I also made some boxes to hide a few things I didn't like the look of.
