Rick! Love the updated photos - the changes look great. Cleaned up the heater wiring, new paint & the TV!

I've got my sink hooked up & have a computer going on the workbench now. Summer's certainly not calming down for me, but let's try to schedule a time to meet up for beers @ Fergus/Bix & then check the garage's!

Brizz, thanks. I think I may have caught a glimpse of you earlier tonight on 85th. I was in my Red Q7. Yes, let's aim for a meetup before the snow starts falling. I put my sink plans on hold. I think it will be something I reserve for down the road. Things are getting a bit tight for me on the back wall, so I may need to go with a smaller unit. I saw a really cool stainless hand wash center but it was over $1k.

Dwich, thanks. It was a builder upgrade and I think it was money well spent.

Re: Rick's Double Garage in Calgary, CAN

I have a couple of questions on the race deck flooring you installed, are you able to use a floor jack on that surface to jack a car up? Living in Calgary the road slush and sand will melt off the vehicle onto the floor and you say you pressure wash this into the floor.i live in northern Ontario with the same conditions. My question is do you have to pull up the floor in the spring to wash the sand from under the flooring?
p.s floor looks great

Nice setup, you couldn't have your neighbors any closer to you in that subdivision.

Re: Rick's Double Garage in Calgary, CAN

are you able to use a floor jack on that surface to jack a car up?
Unfortunately, no. I did the first time and the pressure points, being as they are, resulted in a gouge in a few tiles, which I had to later replace. I end up popping a few tiles out where the jack will go, and then replace once I'm done. One disadvantage vs. a floor coating.

do you have to pull up the floor in the spring to wash the sand from under the flooring?
Yes, that's exactly what I have to do. At first it was a major pain, but now I have a pretty slick system. The tiles pop away from each other pretty easily, so I rip 3 sections out and drag them to the driveway. I rinse the floor and then drag each section in, while using a red jerry can to lift the section off the floor, I rinse the section as I'm dragging it back in. Next time I do it, I'll snap a photo. But, I'm sure you can envision what I'm saying. I do that quite regularly because I'm a bid OCD (if you haven't noticed). In the winter, I go through this process whenever the weather allows. (Which isn't too often!). I get the whole thing done in about a half an hour. Although it's a longer process, I do LOVE the fact that all that grime is under the floor so I'm never tracking it in the car or house.

I think I see some Ikea shelves, or is that my imagination?
No, you are not imagining things. I tried to source some stainless steel shelving, but I just kept coming back to the Ikea website. I actually think they are the perfect shelf for what I'm looking for. I wouldn't suggest them for heavy duty use, as the finish is a little fragile. But, for a few car cleaning products and towels; perfect.

what do you use for cleaning / vacuuming interiors? I am not really interested in paying for a $300 "detail" and would rather do it myself (Volvo SUV with caked in salt / grime stains).
I have a wet/dry vac that I keep handy all year-round. For soldified salt stains, there's a relatively new product that works great called "Salt Eraser" which is available at a number of major retailers. It comes in a black and blue spray can and it does a terrific job of breaking those hardened salt stains. You spray it on, let it go to work, and have at it with the wet vac. Other than that, I use a variety of carpet cleaning sprays. I'm currently using a carpet cleaning solution by Griot's Garage and it's my favorite so far. Basically, I vacuum, spray, vacuum, spray and repeat until I feel it's thoroughly clean. But, do try the Salt Eraser, it's really effective.

you couldn't have your neighbors any closer to you in that subdivision
A million more bucks would get me a 1/2 acre in my current neighbourhood with the provision that my house be at least 4000 sq ft. I guess I'll have to settle for what I got! In all seriousness, this is the way it is in Calgary these days. The developers have it made. Then again, I lived in South Korea and Japan for years, so I feel like I'm isolated in my current home! It's all relative, I guess...

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. The highlight of my day is when someone asks about my garage!

Truly impressive Rick!

I apologize for not reading EVERY posting, so if I'm asking a question that's already been asked I'm sorry. Where did that hanging stainless trash can come from? Griots?

How you keep dirt/grit from sticking to the microfibers in those baskets on the wall? I keep mine in plastic bags, well, except the ones downgraded to shop rags.

Suggestion. I did not see more than the 1 tube heater. I use those in my shop. Rotate/Tilt it toward the center of the garage to take advantage of the radiation and not cook everything directly under it.

It's a pretty clean enviornment, but you now have me thinking. I may need to rethink how I store my microfibers.

I agree. My contractor wasn't really thinking when he installed it. When I mentioned the tilt he was quick to inform me that it would require some extra materials and reworking the ducting.

It's through a company called Frost. Not sure if they are Canadian or not. They are an industrial supply company. Awesome quality. Not cheap, though. That GC cost 2 bills.

Thanks guys.

These words kept echoing in my ear, so a full re-do of my main storage wall is in progress. I hope to have some "finished" shots up by mid-week. Funny how some comments just make you stop and think...

Also, I took delivery of a very nice Craftsman 55" Cabinet (Red/Black). Some incredbile deals can be found on the Sears Canada website. Never a better time to buy.

Two matching Craftsman wall cabinets are on order. Perfect for microfiber towels!

Patched the holes and painted the wall. Now, just waiting to install the new cabinets which I will be picking up tomorrow. The new box exceeded all my expectations. It's just gorgeous. Almost too nice to put tools in! Almost...

Sorry about the low-quality iPhone pic. Better pics tomorrow!

I relocated and repurposed the wall-mounted baskets to store some car cleaning supplies and our bike helmets:

I had been in search of a new shop stool for months, and stumbled upon a Snap-On stool at Costco for $75!:

I moved some car cleaning supplies from this wall over to the other one, so this is where I'll store my garage cleaning supplies from now on:

Pretty nice Q7 for being a teacher! I'm an art teacher, and just got let go from my district this past spring, it's so hard to find a job, let alone keep one with people that have 30 years of seniority and tenure and wont retire.

Very sorry to hear that. I spent quite a bit of time teaching in International schools in Asia before returning to my hometown in 2008. Might be something worth checking in to if jobs are scarce in your neck of the woods.

Very nice space. Did you make all the decals around the garage? If so, how?

Thanks. The Audi "rings" logo, Q7 and KIA decals were purchased off ebay. Through that transaction I got to know the seller and he put me in touch with his designer so I sent them a photo of my Optima and they did a custom decal for me. For the text decals, I found a website called Wall Written.

Re: Rick's Double Garage in Calgary, CAN

Made some minor modifications to my space this weekend. A minor reorganization of some shelves along with the addition of a spray bottle rack. Also, created some labels for my most-used spray products. With all the major stuff out of the way, I have a lot of time to obsess about little details!

I had a pool party not too long ago and had some people into my garage. One person refered to it as a "man-cave" what a total *****. I did'nt challenge him on his accusation! It is kind of pegoritive and I was mixing drinks all night. I don't even have a tele in there...

Love what you did!!!

The TV show "House Hunters" makes me cringe every time someone uses the term "Man Cave". Thanks for the props.

In my view, it's either a "shop" or a "workshop" - man cave implies some overly pretty place where Type A alpha males watch football and yell at the TV! Not a place where real work gets done!
