Sorry if I missed your post but is it RaceDeck that you used on the floor? So you also have a black threshold on the floor as well for the garage door?

Looks great! What is the your garage's measurement after the 4' expansion?

Yup. It's the Racedeck Free Flow tiles. Not quite sure what you mean by "black threshold for the garage door". I have the trim pieces for the span of the garage door. I think that's what you are referring to.

The standard plan had it at 20x22/24 but it is now 24x22/24. It's actually a very comfortable size. I haven't ever cursed myself for not going bigger. My neighbor went with a 6' extension, though. The extra 2' sure makes a big difference. He tucks his BMW 2002 in there. Our lot didn't allow for that wide of an extension.

How do you find the RaceDeck holds up in the winter with all the salt and sand. I am from Ontario and find it hard to keep the garage clean in the winter months.

Posting some new photos. Since joining this site, I had to do a few changes. I think I may have figured out how to post higher quality imaged. Here goes:

Great space. My hat goes off to you for placing all those logos and keeping them aligned horizontally. I don't have the patience or attention to detail to place decals like that without majorly f'ing them up.

Gorgeous color on the Q7 as well... hard to find people that won't drive silver/white/black Audis these days. I spent a few extra months shopping for my A4 until I found the uncommon dark green.

Re: Rick's Double Garage in Calgary, CAN

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Winter has hit and my new challenge is keeping the floor clean from debris. The RaceDeck Free Flow is perfect for the Canadian winters. Huge ice chunks fall off the cars and all the water conveniently drains through the tiles. Some dirt dries and hardens on the top surface of the tile, but a quick and easy mop does the trick. I will need to drag the tiles out onto the driveway in time to rinse and squeegee the floor, but I don't mind that considering how dry and comfortable the tiles keep my garage floor.

As for the decals, it was a test of my patience for sure! I have one of those dandy Black 'n Decker leveling laser beam thing-a-my-jigs. Helped immensely.

The Garnet Red is now discontinued on the Q7. I have grown quite attached to it. I'm told it is now a $3000 custom color option. Not sure I love it that much. I plan on selling it in the Spring and ordering the new Q7. Hoping they have some cooler colours than grey and dark grey.

Cheers all.

Amazing work with your garage. I've been admiring it for awhile and hope you think "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" because I've borrowed a few ideas from your garage for mine. Thanks for all the great photos and ideas.

Re: Rick's Double Garage in Calgary, CAN

I've started my garage thread and have posted photos showing the initial work. Once the weather clears up here in North Carolina, I'll snap some more updated photos.

Just checked it out. Looks amazing. Keep your thread updated as you progress. I just finished rinsing out the dirt and debris from our first week of snow up here. I love the look and practicality of the FreeFlow. I'm sure you will too.

Thank you. I agree, the free flow flooring is great. Not much snow around here but plenty of rain and the free flow works great to drain the water away.

Even with the snow and muck, I can walk around in my stocking feet. Just have to dodge the big piles of guck that falls from the wheel wells. They'll easily help you deal with wet weather. I open the door a crack, snap a few of the edges off and let the water drain out the front when I track moisture in.

Re: Rick's Double Garage in Calgary, CAN

Ok, so today was a very mild day, so I decided to do a little tidying - mostly the floor. Winter is upon my city, and the dirt and debris that gets tracked into my garage means I have to clean things when the weather permits. I took some photos of the process and thought I would share. I have fielded a few questions about how my RaceDeck floor performs in the winter. The entire process took me just over an hour. That included about 20 minutes just to pressure wash the driveway. Here she goes:

Step 1: Unfasten the portion of the floor that the winter daily driver parks on. The floor under the covered car was cleaned in the Fall.

IMG_7224 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

IMG_7223 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

Step 2: Slide loose panel out to driveway.

IMG_7225 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

IMG_7227 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

IMG_7230 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

IMG_7229 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

IMG_7228 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

Step 3: Use hose to rinse the mud and debris to the driveway.

IMG_7233 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

Step 4: Use squeegee to dry floor.

IMG_7234 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

Step 5: Prop the panels up with a jerry can being held in place by squeegee (my genius innovation)

IMG_7236 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

Step 6: Rip big panel into two lighter panels, and pull panel in while using hose to loosen the most dirty tiles.

IMG_7238 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

Step 7: Start pulling the second panel in while loosening dirty tiles with hose.

IMG_7239 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

Step 8: With panels back in, time to clean squeegee.

IMG_7235 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

Step 9: Snap all tiles back into place. (My favorite part)

IMG_7241 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

IMG_7245 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

Step 10: Retrieve power washer.

IMG_7248 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

Step 11: Power rinse the driveway.

IMG_7249 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

Step 12: Mop RaceDeck floor with water and Pine Sol.

IMG_7250 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

Final Step: Enjoy.

IMG_7256 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

IMG_7252 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

The entire process took an hour today. Most time consuming-step was power rinsing the driveway. I need a more powerful power washer, but the ones I want need a 20-amp circuit and I only have standard circuits in the garage with an additional 15-amp.

Do you knock the big chunks off your car, like the ones that collect on the mudflaps behind the front tires, before you pull into the garage? Personally, it didn't seem too dirty yet, I would have left it for a while longer but my garage will NEVER look as good as yours either LOL.

I agree, it wasn't that bad but this plus 10 weather we have today meant I couldn't resist. I've been wanting to power wash that driveway for weeks.

Yeah, my wife gets so annoyed when I tell her to kick the front flaps on her side. In fact, she doesn't do it! I also have a season pass to the local Petro-Canada Glide Touchless car wash, which is right around the corner from me, so there are few days that I pull it in before having it cleaned.

Great photos, thank you for documenting your process. I will probably do a similar cleaning with mine in the spring or summer, just depends on how much dirt accumulates in the garage. Your garage is still looking great, despite that cold and snowy weather.

I highly doubt yours even needs it! Looks pretty clean to me.

Rick, two questions. First, do you find the water gets "trapped" under the heavy drip zones ( ie where the misses forgets to kick snow from), or does it permeate to the cement low spots? Second, curious to know how many times a week you wash the car! Do you find the season pass a good value? I have waffled about it or some time

I do have a bit of a low spot at the back. It is pretty much always wet in the winter. The rest of the floor does a pretty good job of drying in the winter.

Yes, I love my Petro Glide Pass. I won't be winning an environmentalist awards, but I haven't parked a dirty car in my garage in a long long time. I pretty much use the Touchless every day, but it doesn't always get the cars perfectly clean. I use a spray detailer once or twice a week to make sure I get all the nasty film that clings.

This one is good: http://www.autoobsessed.com/shop/griots-garage-spray-car-wash-8oz-11064-p-861.html

It kind of stings when you buy it, but it just saves so much time and hassle in the long run. I renew 6 months at a time to save $20.

You haven't seen the mess my wifes car is making in there  It does dry up quickly though with the infloor heat. I won't need to pull mine out like you did as I don't have the flow through type tiles. Just have to get the hose after the mud.

What type of mop do you use at the end? I have an old sponge head mop that I tried, but it didn't do the best job.

Much appreciated. I went to Petro Can and no sale on the 90 day pass right now, however, Dec 1st might bring a sale (according to service attendant who has been there for a few years). Great info on the Race Deck and sloping issues, and the write-up on the cleaning process.

I just use one I picked up at Rona. It's okay, but it tends to lose a few fibers each time I use it. I will do some better research when it comes time to replace it, but I'll get at least a few more years out of her. Your garage in on an alley, right? That means you can just rinse her out and be done with it. I have to rinse it out on to the driveway and I just can't let the driveway get so dirty. I'm paranoid about the salt and its impact on the aggregate drive. I've seen a few drives get choppy and ruined. I'm sure salt is the reason.

Really? They sell the pass with all the other Gift Certificates. They did have a $5 sale at one point, or triple the Petro-Can rewards points. I just renew my pass online.

Gorgeous place to get some stuff done. A lot of these images are getting saved and will be used as inspiration.

Nice and clean, but functional at the same time. Keep up the great work!

Re: Rick's Double Garage in Calgary, CAN

Yah, whatever the salt chemical the city is using on the streets is, it's sure bad for concrete. My floor in the original garage is spalling badly everywhere the stuff has pooled. That's one of the reasons I laid the Racedeck in the new addition. I want to do something in the main garage too, but need something that can resist welding/grinding spatter too. I thinking maybe a perimeter of porcelin tile with a section of RaceDeck in the center. For that I'd go with the free flow stuff like yours since there is a floor drain in there to take the runoff.

It is one less step with the direct entry to the alley for the cleaning, the downside is the alley isn't paved (yet) so a lot of **** gets tracked in from it too. I'll have to go mop shopping and see what I can come up with. If I find something decent i'll post it.
