Hey Rick, I've seen you post pictures of your beautiful garage over on Beyond.ca over the course of the past few years and I am absolutely amazed after finding this thread. You have a beautiful shop with a lot of good tips and design elements I like and may use in the garage I am building down in SE Calgary. I'd love to come by and take a peak at it later this summer when you're out washing your cars. Keep us updated with the pictures!

Thanks a lot. I didn't know my garage was getting love at beyond.ca. I will have to see if I can find the thread. I'm up in the SW (Wentworth), feel free to come by in the summer. Good luck with yours! Take care.

Re: Rick's Audi Double

Well, it would appear that even after 2+ years, my garage is still receiving a few views so I thought I would post up some shots of it in its current condition. Those familiar with my garage will see that only very mild changes have been made since my last update. (A few photos added and some car accessories stored in various spots).

As my little guy acquires a vaster fleet of "vehicles", my challenge is finding a way to keep the space from becoming overrun by them. The last two photos of the set show the space WITH his toys in there, and WITHOUT. Don't get me wrong, I love that he has a variety of fun toys, but for my own sanity they need to be out of the way when not in use.

I must admit, it entertains me greatly to see him rolling around in that thing with the plate on the back. Neighbors seem to get a kick out of it also!

I've been watching your thread for awhile. I'm curious what your car cleaning / detailing process is? I'd be interested to know what all the bottles are hanging up.

Nice garage by the way

Rick, it looks GREAT as always. so clean, so organized.. I'm so jealous (in a good way) :)

As always, thanks for noticing!

Nice garage by the way

I have many different processes that I'm always tweaking. During the summer, I do most of my heavy washing at the coin-op. When I get it home, I can spend many hours just using a spray detailer to get in the jambs and sills. I coated this vehicle with GTechniq Exo V2 and it is impressive stuff. The car dries quick and rarely needs a lot of going over.

If I'm going to do a full day detail, it starts with a foam gun, two-bucket wash, blow dry, exhaust tip clean/polish, it just ends up being a competition with myself to see how obsessive I can get. The one step I have yet to take is to put the car in the air and do a wheel off detail. Who knows, there may be scissor lift in the garage's future.

As for the bottles hanging around, most are for those rare instances when I need a very specific product. Currently, my "go to" products would be:

Glass: Invisible Glass by Stoner
Tires: More Shine by Stoner
Wash: GTechniq
Dash/console: Cockpit Premium by Einszett
Spray Detailer: Speed Shine (I have yet to try the Optimum no rinse, but I'm looking forward to it)
Wheels: Sonax or Griot's Garage wheel cleaner

And, recently I rediscovered my Z6 Gloss Enhancer by Zaino. It's the cherry on top.

My BIL came over last night with his new S4 and we gave it a light going over. Gorgeous car.

My only excuse to NOT get that car is that I enjoy life with a wife. (Two years down the road and you never know....)

So over the past few months, I've been literally using yours and Dubber's garage threads as my reference. Both your garages are awesome, and I wanted to credit the two of you for the massive inspiration.

With a similar climate situation (in Ottawa), I also chose to use Racedeck Free Flow. I think the pattern will be familiar to you both :)

I'll get a thread started, but just wanted to say thanks for not just documenting, but showing the finer details too!

Well, if you dig our garages, you will probably be even more impressed with Chad's. He's got the "Big boy" version. Here's the link if you aren't already familiar with it:

Re: Rick's Audi Double

We should make a club for those who have black/red/graphite Freeflow haha. Who started it?

I chose the colour scheme prior to finding Garage Journal, but I had seen a few gallery photos of the staging lanes at Barrett-Jackson on the RaceDeck website, and that's what I based my decision on.

Re: Rick's Double Garage in Calgary, CAN

The weather forecast is calling for some mild temps, so perfect time to rinse out the floor beneath my RaceDeck FreeFlow floor. This is the 4th winter with the FF, and it has handled everything mother nature has thrown its way. Today's "rinse" took 20 mins. Here's a few photos documenting the process:

IMG_9936 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

IMG_9939 by 55cadillacking, on Flickr

If only I could keep my car as clean as the floor it rests on…

It may look like a lot of work, but it's really not that big of a deal. If I can manage in this climate, I'm sure everyone can.

How do you like that electric pressure washer? Brand?

I am quite satisfied with this pressure washer. It's one of the million different models Karcher manufacturers. I believe this on is the 5.690 model.

Link: http://www.karcher.com/us/Products/Home__Garden/Pressure_washers/Electric_Best/16019010.htm

My only gripe is that the detergent tank has never operated properly. Other than that, it's a great around the house pressure washer.

It seems I can always find a project in the garage. Did a little tiling on the spray bottle wall.

This is how it looked two days ago:

Like your garage a lot, good job. One thing that goes against my grain is that I like things more out of the way (hidden) but I love how you have made the items that are out on display attractive. Nice job!

Hi Rick! If you see a quick Audi A4 running around your area it might be me!!! I live in Edmonton but get down to Cowtown often! Great job on the garage!

Since I know you are into washing things here is my plan: Adding plumbing into the garage to a large electric pressure washer that I will mount up above the garage door, then a swing out hose wand off the side of the house so I can pressure wash in the driveway without lugging hoses around.

I find it more convenient to have my regularly used products out in the open, and the rarely used stuff in the cabinets.

Thanks. You can never be too organized!

That sounds like a great innovation. I'd love to see that in action. I'll keep an eye out for you in your A4. There's a lot of Audi's in Calgary though. Might be hard to spot!

All I have there is some plastic coated hooks that I screwed into ceiling joists. Nothing fancy at all, but it works!

Re: Rick's Audi Double

So, I'm thinking of installing some type of trench drain at the top of my driveway where it meets the garage. I have a friend in the business and he's suggesting the Polycast system.

http://www.hubbellpowersystems.com/drain-systems/polycast/400-series/

The tricky part will be matching the aggregate concrete after the trench is set. But, it may be an opportunity to do something creative such as cobblestones or something. This will allow me to more easily rinse out the floor on mild winter days as the run-off won't freeze and turn my driveway into a skating rink. Work should commence at the end of August.

It will look something like this:

If your going that far u could also add a drain in the middle of the garage :)

Great idea though. Good luck.

Re: Rick's Audi Double

Thats a good idea honestly. I lived in an older community that had the garages below grade which had ramps down to them and they all have the drains at the bottom. Only issue is making sure they stay clear to prevent freeze over in the winter.

Holy moly that engine compartment looks nice! Mind sharing what products you used? How does one get all the dirt and gunk out of all the little plastic crevices? If there is a link to a website 'Detailing for Dummies' or something like that I'd love to know of it.

Thanks for the feedback guys. This video by Auto Obsessed is the method I use to clean an engine bay.

Having a wide variety of brushes is the key for me. Also, I use an engine dressing spray to give it that glossy look. I won't tackle a greasy engine in my garage, but this one was pretty much just coated with a thick layer of dust. For the grimy ones, I go to the wand wash place late at night so no one cares if I'm in there for an hour!
