OK. I have a 2100+/- SF garage with 7 1/2" PEX loops in the 5" slab on top of 2" foam board under the entire slab and down 2' towards footer on the perimeter walls. The loops are 250-300' each. The walls are 2 x 8's with R-30. 12.5' high flat ceiling with R-49. I have a total of 6 insulated windows, 2 pedestrian doors & 1 - 18x10 R-11 garage door. I would like advice on what size propane boiler I should use, where to get all the materials. I had a local company give me a price of $6600 for a 95% 85000BTU boiler installed to my existing PEX runs. I was hoping to get the price down and maybe finish it myself, Thanks in advance. Ted.

Anthony,

You wrote a quote for $79,200.00?

Yes. Piping is near boiler location & close to an exterior wall where propane line will be.

I would talk to Brian and pexheat.com. I have had them do my complete system design and so far (except for some shipping issues) I have been very pleased with his work, design and the system components.

Just pay the guy , for crying out loud , that's a good price .
Why is it we will spend thousands of dollars on the garage and windows and doors but then want to be cheap on the heating system ?
That heating boiler will do it's job and then some for yrs and yrs to come , can you say that about any new car you buys for almost $20,000 now days ?

you're right

but the amount you quoted is still a good price if it's parts and labor turn key and it's done properly .. got more details re the boiler ?? what model etc etc

does he have a website with some of his previous work or references ??

Sorry , I tend to look at this stuff a whole lot differently. You only ask a simple question and I was rude.

But his price is fair and if you really want a comparison , get 2 more quotes and it's not always the best to take the lowest .

Yes. It is indeed a Wail-McClain 95.2% 80000BTU. And I believe the unit is around 4K. This company does alot of HVAC work for me. They are a good company to use. The owners are brothers. Thanks for your responses. Ted.

if it's the ultra series, you have to run it in primary secondary configuration .. and at least 1" copper .. if it were me i'd do 1" legs into a 1 1/4" loop, a little volume is always a good thing .. if they're doing that for you for 6k and change they really are giving you a huge deal .. you will have a very hard time doing it yourself that cheap

in one of your other posts i think you said you have a pex to insulation stapler for sale .. was that you ?? if so, gimme a price on it shipped to canada

Anthony, I will discuss the details of the installation this week. Also, I do have the stapler... I think I paid $300 for it. I also have a bunch of staples as well. What about $150 + shipping costs. Thanks Ted

OK. Spoke with my HVAC guy. He is now telling me he quoted a Weil McLain GV90 plus4 97000 BTU rated at 92%. So your thoughts are appreciated. However, this appears to be a totally different kind of boiler. Thanks.

I just installed a Rannai propane boiler and so far I love it. Its a 130K btu unit with domestic hot water capability. My installer told me this is the best boiler on the market that money can buy at the momment. To each their own, but it did cost me $4200 boiler only with vent kit.
