Looking for a recommendation for people who have used either style of these heaters. My garage is 30x44 with 12' ceilings and I plan to heat it all winter. In my old house I had a 22x22 garage and used a similar style (but smaller) Mr Heater radiant heater on a thermostat and loved it which is why I planned on using two of the larger Mr Heater units mentioned below. The main advantage to me is not having to knock a hole in the wall for intake or exhaust piping required with the heat tubes.

My original plan was to use two of these.......

But I am now considering using one of these (30' length)

Thanks in advance.

We have the Reverberray heaters at work(Auto Repair Shop), they work great as long as they're hung flat/straight, the ones that are angled 45 deg or so make way too much noise, vibration! The Man. has sent reps out to try & fix the issue but the haven't been able to yet. It's like cymbals all day long!

I'm in the process of buying a Schwank gas fired radiant tube heater. Still working out all the details with the tech guy but my building is roughly the same size as yours - 38'X40' with 13' ceilings. I was surprised at how much "tech" goes into buying one of these. I would have bought one almost 3x what I needed and would have created issues. I was also surprised how reasonably priced these units are. I only have access to propane and electric is out of the question. Plus I got 2 years free tank rental. A friend has a gas fired radiant tube heater and it works awesome.

i bought the reverberay last year. i bought the ld 30' 50k btu single stage. it gets cold in michigan, and if you have it set to 55, your taking your shirt off. like they say, feels like the sun is shining on you. mine is very quiet. the salesguy recommended this one to me, saying its best to let them run a lot. mine takes a few hours to go from 40 to 55 when its under 20. (32x50 barn) so i called them and you can get parts to upgrade it to 75k btu for $70. very cool. Im not out there much so i want it to get warm fast...

Go the radiant tube type either Reverberray or Radiant Energy in Wixom Michigan. These heat the objects not the air so recovery time is fast. The one you noted from northern tool is not vented and requires a lot of open vented space. You would not be able to insulate and keep it on constantly, unless your in the south or made of money :)

I've got one from Radiant Energy and it does an excellent job of heating my 30 x 34 garage. I think its a 40,000 btu and is running on propane. My propane bill was only an additional $200 for the 2011-2012 winter. My garage is insulated and drywalled. I keep it at 45 all winter and turn it up when i need to work out there. I'm in northern Michigan. Hope this helps.

Great thanks for the tips everyone. Lots of people in MI from here. I am also from MI which is why I chose Reverberray, they are 30 minutes from my house.

The guy recommended a 30' tube but with where I want to put my lift I think I am only going to do a 20' tube (50K BTU) so I never have to worry about the clearance to the tube when I have a car up on the lift.

Thanks again!
