Hi all. So I'm looking at putting a natural gas radiant tube heater in my garage. I'm trying to decide on where to place. I'm in Pittsburgh, it's a 24'x24' detached, insulated garage. I'll try to describe the layout, since I don't have a program on this computer to sketch it out.

I'm sure my garage is pretty typical. One double door to enter. Two cars parked side by side. Work bench is in the front, with tool boxes and another bench along one side. So, my first thought would be to locate it towards the front of the garage. I can't put it right over the bench because it would be too close to the front wall, plus I'm sure it would make me too hot. I was thinking back from the bench a bit, with the reflector at 45 degrees pointing towards the door. Or maybe right down the center of the garage between the cars? Or maybe one side or the other? Where do most folks locate their tube type radiant heaters?

I have a 24' x 24' with a 10' ceiling. I installed a 15' 25K BTU right in the middle parallel to the doors with the reflector pointing directly down. Works very good.

I was a little worried that might not be good for the paint on the cars, having the heater directly over them like that. I take it you haven't had any trouble.

I am similarly concerned with that. I intend to put my collector car on a 4 posrt lift and store it up high, but it would be within a couple feet of such a centrally mounted heater.

No, but it's also only 25K BTU's which has been more then enough. And it's mounted 9' off the ground.

I have a 30X40 and placed mine on the long end wall mounted at 45* hot end on the side with the door and keep the shop about 60* all winter - works great..

Put the hot end (with the burner) at the big door end. That should narrow down your choices.
