Please forgive me guys I'm a bit of a ratard when it comes to this stuff. Trying to make my 16×36 barn more comfortable during summer and winter seasons. I have a all steel barn. Exposed roof with no ceiling. I intend on putting a ceiling in with insulation But I'm trying to do it all on a budget. Had been hearing a lot about these radiant barriers I was wondering i can staple direct to prelims and leave a roughly 2 inch air space between exposed steel and radient barrier... So I'll be cutting roughly 20 pieces 24" wide and 16 ft long and putting them in between each rafter on each side. Leaving gap for ridge vent and soffits. I've had numerous people all offer a different opinion on how to do this so any expertise would be greatly appreciated. Basically The red arrows I need direction of the barrier and the blue dots are where I would be stapling on 2x4

Sheet the lid with whatever you can afford, if the trusses are rated for a dead load, OSB, sheetrock or metal. Then blow in as much insulation as you can afford. I have 24" of cellulose and people are always blown away how comfortable and evenly heated my 3000 sq ft shop is.

Best result would be foam insulation.
I think an "attic" space with attic insulation (I assume this is a "lid) would be second best.
I'd want to "vent" the attic. There may already be a ridge vent - can't see.

I know this is a budget deal... but don't underestimate the cost of foam (done in a few hours) over building an attic up there.
