Anyone have a CHEAP source for decals for a #89 wagon. Just picked up one at a tag sale for $10 and am going to repaint it. I know I can get them from Radio Flyer but they want $15 apiece for them plus ship. Being the cheap ******* that I am, I would like to find a cheaper source.

That is doable, what kind of stencil paper ? Do they make self adhesive stencil?

Yes.

It's call frisket paper. Any art store should carry it.

Another option is to just buy sign vinyl by the foot and cut out the stencils.

Another option is to hunt the interwebz for a vector file of the Radio Flyer logo that you can take to any sign shop that can cut the logo out in vinyl. Then apply.

I'm sure someone somewhere out there has traced the logo in Adobe Illustrator /Photoshop and has it as a vector file. Load onto a thumb drive. Tell the sign shop what color vinyl and how big and how many. Done.

You could go to an arts/craft store and purchase frisket paper. That may work. It is what airbrush artists use.

Hello, this is my first time posting and a topic I know about. Just found this place, awesome site!

Great topic. I recently restored my old wagon from when I was a kid in the 80's, a Radio Flyer 90 for my sons. It was in rough shape, luckily there were no holes through it. Radio Flyer doesn't make the decals for the older ones so I had to trace it and cut out a stencil using mylar. I should have used frisket like others have said but I figured the mylar would be durable and give me a second chance incase I screwed it up. I then took the stencil and put rubber cement on the back side and glued it on the wagon side. Sprayed it then removed it later and cleaned up the left over rubber cement. Unfortunately if you look up close you can see the errors in cutting round edges freehand with an X-Acto and some places the stencil popped up and paint got under but I think overall it came out ok. I have to keep telling myself it was really rough before and that the kids will probably beat the **** out of it later on anyways haha.

I am working on that wagon trailer shown in one photo for it I found at a toy show as well. It has the new style decals on the side but they are small. I was thinking on making a smaller version of the 90 logo and putting it on the side instead to match the 90.

Would like to see pics and how it comes out.

For me, $15 seems to be not worth my time to make them myself. BUT if I needed to, I could make those pretty easily if I had the artwork. Either find the artwork online if available, or do a tracing of the existing stuff, scan it in, fix up in Photoshop, then cut it out on my 24" wide vinyl cutter I use for vehicle graphics.

Yeah, it's nice having the ability to make stuff like that. :)

But in the end, $15 is still not worth all the effort to do that in my opinion. Though if you're waiting for paint to dry and you have the materials, then why not?

Sign shops here will not cut any stencil that they suspect has a copyright. They will cut your design.

+1. My time is worth money, and I can't see trying to trace & cut and make a new stickon that is likely to look kinda crappy is worth all the hassle of saving $30.

Speedway Motors also carries alot of vinyl decals for pedalcars and some wagons.

I was thinking of just tracing the original logo by hand onto the stencil paper and cutting out with an X-acto knife like TallGuyJoe did above. He said it didn't come out perfect, but it looks pretty good in the photos. :)

I like how that guy in vegas (American Restoration?) gets like $800 to redo a wagon, his prices are out of sight but he does do some neat work.
