Radio Shack Intercom System

I just got an Intercom System from Radio Shack. Its a nice setup for $49 that comes with three stations that have three channels that operate on an FM frequency.
It has an adjustable volume / on / off dial and a call button ( tone when you hit it to allert who you are calling). You can add as many stations as you like. It has a great range at my place of about 75 feet. The main station is in the center of the hous and the other stations are well within my barn / shop. It is wall mountable.

Crystal clear signal that saves my wife from going outside or yelling out the back door to find me.

I might have to check that out. Can you reply without being at the unit? Like, if you're on the floor, can you yell to it? I was gonna get a set of 2 way radios, but would rather have an intercom if I can find one.

My .02 I wouldn't even think of phone/intercom in my shop that my place to get away from it all I like the fact that if the wife and kids want somthing they have to get off there buts and take a walk but thats just me

No you have to walk over and press the talk button.

As far as the wife is concerned when she calls and say's "FOODs ready" I'll be happy she called and go running. Especially since she's a good cook.

She did however on the second day call over it

" Get your A#@!#@ in here we're going to be late !!! "

Our experience is about the same as yours. The Radio Shack system is very dependable and we think a bargain even at the retail price. We tried hand held walkie talkies, CB radios, etc with little success. Found the RS units at a garage sale for $10 and plugged them inand all worked great. Shop is about 30 feet from main house.

Yea, i'm curious too. What's the range on those things. I'm looking at needing to reach about 250 ft.

Are these things wireless? We use walkie talkies but Sometimes they both end up in the house which isn't very helpful

From what I remember these do not really have a distance range as they use the electricity in the walls so as long as you are on the same meter they will work.

I have a set of those intercoms from Radio Shack, they must be 20 years old and still work fine. I'm not sure and have never tried this but I beleive if you are on the same transformer you could even use them house to house?? My wife bought me a couple of those Motorola home walkie talkie type things when they first came out to take on my hunting trips. They originally had a 2 mile range, the newer ones I think have a range of up to 14 miles and are a lot more compact now, about the same size as a cell phone with a belt clip. Those things are great and you don't need any FCC license as long as they are for home use that I know of. Something to think about, you can find them about everywhere for $20 on up depending if you go rechargeable or batteries.
