Hi -----I' m a long time HAMBer----and I've got Garage question. I've got a real static problem. Especially on AM radio. I know the problem is from my flouresent lights. I know it is probably bad ballast ground on any one (or more) of the 12 8ft lights. Here is my question. Is there an out side antenna that WORKS that i can use to by pass my standard radio (wire) antenna? BILL

AM radio is a b*tch to keep tuned and clear. I have significant experience in electronics, and I spent YEARS trying to keep a radio tuned to a sports station about 70 miles away. Everything interfered; every shift of weather and daylight needed compensation in the antenna positioning.

AM is one of those things that either works or doesn't. If you're in the doesn't category, there's not much you can do about it.

Buy a radio with external antenna jacks, the GE Superadio II is an economical choice, Grundig and C.Crane makes higher end stuff. There are a few commercially available am antennas or google to find homebuilt plans. But whatever you do the antenna will have to be a fair distance from the flourescent fixtures.
