Need to get some 1 1/2" .083 square tube rolled in about a 4' radius for the top and lower rails. Has anyone been thru this?
Thanks in Advance

Yup, i did this for all the top rails on my man and rolling gates. At the time I had a Fab company roll all of them for me and then I cut and grafted into my design. Since then I've bought my own roller. The one thing you'll need to be careful of is kinking with that gauge metal if you do it yourself unles you have a mandrel style bender.

The one company I spoke with did say it would be better to go to .060 wall thickness as the .083 might kink on the inner wall.
Thanks

Interesting because my Fab company couldn't roll the thin stuff without kinking and used 3/16". The only issue for me was all my gates are made from .120 which has a hard corner and anything thicker has a raduised corner so I had to blend the transition. Personally I won't use anything less then .090 wall for fencing and try to stick with .120 wall.

We used to roll a lot of square tube at our shop. Generally a thicker wall will hold it's shape better. 4' radius is pretty tight and you can expect some change in size of the tube depending on the type of machine and dies.

Here is the area I am trying to fence....luckily the 4' tight radius is the 90 degree at the top.....the lower 130 degree is a 5' radius

I do it pretty frequently My roller has paid for itself with random work, the wall thickness is not all that important for rolling, thinner you can go slower, Thicker you COULD go faster.... with the thinner stuff you just have to go slower in how much you arch it at one time, the walls will bulge if you go to far to fast, I've never had a kink except about 8" or a foot from the end... 4' is not a tight radius (depending on how big your tube is) Your .083 1.5 square tube is a cakewalk....

My first quote was better than I expected...for 8 quarter circle pieces with me supplying the tubing was $400 and I need to supply the tubing and a plywood template which I figured anyway.

The local metal yard had the metal for this arch rolled for me. The material and rolling was ~ $300 for 4 hoops and some misc. small pieces. So if you can cut and weld check with the metal supplier to see if they can provide pre rolled metal. It seems to me that it was $35 extra to roll the 24' stick into the loop.

I received 2 more bids real close to the $400 bid.....I went with a $500 guy that will supply the material and doesn't need templates. I visited his shop to finalize and he showed me a similar job he is doing right now. He has a floor area in his shop with a 90 degree layout and marked with radius increments. He said he will put it in the machine and check it on the floor when it is close and he can hold 3/8"-1/2" tolerance. Those tolerances I can handle for a wrought iron railing.
Next post will be pictures of the tubes....
Merry Christmas to Everyone!

Well I picked up the tubes today and asked him to lay one random piece out on the floor and soapstone a 90 degree corner and mark where 5' was from the corner...it looked good and then I measured the apex....within a friggin 1/4"....WOW!
Sure glad when I poured the concrete I set radius points for the bender board

Looks Good. Did you have your turf fenced off? Lol

Yes I did have temp fencing since it was put down 2 months ago and I have 2 rescue female dogs that I want to keep off of it until it is established.

Looks good. I saw a couple instagram posts where they made straight fence panels and then sent each side through the section roller...

Instant curved panels, no complex fitup.

Just did 16 5' sections of pre punched channel for my metal supplier. And a couple 1" Square tube rails to print... nowhere NEAR that much! but meh It buys me toys.

Thanks guys!
I know it seems like a normal project for the people that do it for a living but I only had weekends with good weather to accomplish it.
It reminded me of laying a 100' long 7' tall block retaining wall around the garage before I built it.....I was soooo Happy it was done. My goal was Spring so I am ok and will touch up the primed areas in Spring.
Thanks for following and Good Luck with your projects.
