I have just breathed new life into my old Rae #4 Vise, which had a broken nut for the screw. I installed the screw and nut from a Record #4 Vise, after seeing that the nut would fit, slightly different, but close enough. I had to enlarge the hole as the Record screw is bigger. (actually the entire Record Vise is bigger, heavier, more robust in every way). I used it for parts as it had a jaw broken off and re-welded sometime past. Very ugly. The redeeming feature about the Rae Vise is the Fact that I had removed the original jaw grips years ago and replaced them with tong die's, a feature I really missed while it was out of commission as nothing will grip like tong die's. I did have to shim the screw with a piece of pipe as the threads on the Record screw don't come as close to the handle as the Rae does. By the way, I would appreciate any help regarding the proper terminology for these Vise parts.
I wanted to post this as I recently read a comment from someone who had a broken screw for a Rae Vise, but couldn't bring themselves to throw it away.
I know the feeling, my solution is not perfect but at least it makes my Vise usable again. A couple of pics. may help my description.
