Oh yeah...you get 11% back in rebates too....so that brings the saw to $178...at that price, no need to look at the Rage 4 (which I almost bought because it is $149).

What would you be cutting with the enclosed 36 tooth blade besides solid stock of probably 3/4" thickness to allow for 3 teeth in material?

For me it'll be mostly square tube for projects like tables, racks, etc. But it's good to have for solid stock, etc. Apparently these do a pretty decent job for quite a long time if you don't manhandle them. I don't do production stuff, etc. so I'm happy.

Menard's also has the Rage3 10" sliding miter saw for $149 ($100 off) this week.

Yes the Rage3 has a 1" arbor, so blade options are limited. Oshlun makes one for ferrous metal, and Evolotion has the multi-purpose blade, a ferrous blade, and a wood blade.

I may order one of the sliding miter saws and have it shipped to CA. It would only be 179 which still sounds cheap. I already have a 10" slider so I'm not worried about the lack of blades as I only want this to cut metal with. My questions are: Does this saw go on sale often? Does it come with a blade that I can use for steel? Is there anywhere closer to CA that I should look before buying this?

The blade it comes with does cut steel, but they also sell one specifically for steel. From the reviews I read its not worth it. Cheap base, angle guide is wrong, and replacement blades are around a hundred dollars. I seriously contemplated it before I saw the price of the blades. I think I will just get a normal chop saw, and replace the blades a little more often. Check amazon for some insightful reviews.

Seems like they're pretty hit and miss...but when they miss they miss BADLY

There are a ton of good reviews out there as well though.
